MQ Point - MuseumsQuartier Wien

Dates: Feb 22 to Mar 21, daily, 10:00 – 22:00
Opening: Sat, Feb 21, 19:00
Location: PERFEKT BOX, Electric Avenue
Free admission
The photographer and multimedia artist Lukas Ipsmiller presents
“Levitate”, a cycle of work spanning several years, in the form of a
book publication. The works, which originated in Cyprus, Greece,
Italy and Austria, consider the inherent melancholy of things:
nature, people and technology take centre stage, isolated as
lonely icons.

Here light becomes a space-creating and transitive potential, while
also appearing fleeting and expansive. The ambivalence and polarity
immanent to the medium of light can be experienced.

For the ArtBox, Brigitte Kowanz has developed a site-specific
installation. The subject is the glass cube of the ArtBox itself;
through mirrors and light its base opens up a virtual space of
infinite depth. “The return of the endlessly modified self”
(Jean-Luc Nancy) – real and virtual space merge into one another.
Born in 1975, the media artist is one of Denmark’s most renowned
artists and is currently the subject of his first retrospective in his
native country. As Artist-in-Residence he has expanded a sound
work from 2010 into an eight-channel composition for the TONSPUR_passage. The conceptual approach behind the piece is to
hear what others hear.

The Leopold Museum is on the trace of “Wally”, the woman
whom Egon Schiele immortalized in 1912 in one of his most
famous paintings and who was at his side during his most
important creative years. The exhibition looks at the different stations in the life of Walburga Neuzil (1894 – 1917),
and addresses her professions – from model to nurse.
Significant / Key artworks, for which Wally modelled, such
as Schiele’s painting “Death and the Maiden”, an important
loan from the Belvedere, autographs, photos and documents provide insight into a life between self-fulfillment
and self-sacrifice, between a lack of taboos and a deep
sense of humanity.

Feb 12 to Sep 13
Opening: Wed, Feb 11, 19:00
Feb 4 to Mar 22
Opening: Tue, Feb 3, 19:00
From February, the mumok will be showing, on four levels,
the most important collection of Pop Art in the world:
the collection of the German industrialists Peter and Irene
Ludwig. In the generously laid-out overview exhibition,
around 100 works from six houses are brought together
which are linked to the name of the German collecting
couple. Books, records and films of the time round out
the exhibition and place the works in a wider, sociological
context.

The solo exhibition presents the complex oeuvre of Pierre
Bismuth from the years 1988 to 2014. Characteristic for his
work are the range of media, the serial moment as well
as an experimental and humorous approach to conceptual
techniques. The works are a temptation to question existing
conventions: Authorship, originality and a satire / persiflage
on the artist as genius are regularly recurring themes. The
selection of works is also unconventional, since the artist,
alongside the curator, tasked a lawyer and a psychoanalyst
with the compilation.

“Do I have to die in order to
live?”; “Who wants to live forever, when love must die?”
These were the questions two
different global stars asked
themselves at the end of their
journeys through life. Now, in
the entrance hall to the afterlife,
Falco and Mercury meet one
another. Here the Rock Goddess,
keeper of the in-between, is
expecting them. She asks the
musicians the questions: What
was I? What am I? And what do
I want to be? A new star in the
entertainment sky!
