The Process
The making of a Luzerne plate is a carefully fine tuned process
honed from the company’s unwavering focus on quality and
craftsmanship. The journey to create the finest begins with the
right mix of raw materials; grinded, sieved, demagnetised and
filtered to our exacting standards before they are transformed
into works of art. The resulting clay base is then shaped in 3D
plaster moulds, each painstakingly designed by our craftsmen,
before going into an automated kiln for the inital biscuit firing
process at a temperature of 800°C.
The pieces are next painted by hand to our customer’s design
requirements and glazed to achieve a variety of aesthetic
effects, be it transparent, opaque or semi-matte. The glazed
wares are then fired for a second time in the kiln at a
temperature of 1280°C for 15 to 30 hours to produce that
perfectly shimmery finish. If decal decorations are required, the
pieces are fired for a third time and inspected thoroughly for
quality assurance before they are delivered to our customers.

In 1995, while experimenting with a variety of clay for the new formulation, our artisans
discovered the fine, silky clay of Dehua, China which produced a clear and translucent
texture with soft ivory colour after high temperature firing in the kiln. Since then, our

At our plant, we have developed innovative ways to reduce waste and use less energy to
make top quality products. We use LPG/LNG, an environmentally friendly fuel that
improves air quality by reducing global warming and pollution.
Our recycling efforts involve processing used materials into new products to prevent
waste, reduce energy usage and reduce air and water pollution.
Care and Handling
Luzerne New Bone is designed to withstand daily, heavy usage typical of the busiest
hotels and restaurants.
However, proper and consistent maintenance is essential to prolong its durability, lustre,
elegance and maximise the returns on your dinnerware investment.
Here is a simple but important reference and solutions guide to common problems faced:
To Prevent Breakage and Chipping, Avoid:
 Improper loading in dish racks.
 Piling heavy items on lighter items.
 Stacking dinnerware too high.
 Nesting cups.
 Dropping dinnerware into self-levelling dispensers.
 Mixing sizes in self-levelling dispensers.
 Lack of protective matting on floor of dishwashing area.
 High water pressure in dishwashing machine.
 No rubber guards on disposal unit or dishwashing machine.

To Prevent Scratches and Metal Marking, Avoid:
 Stacking hot, wet dinnerware.
