Environmentally friendly binding agents, additives and natural fibres are combined in a patented production procedure to form the long-lasting megawood® wood-polymer material. Due to this procedure, the natural fibres maintain their unusual resistance. All positive properties of natural wood are maintained and are supplemented by many more advantages. In particular, release of hazardous heavy metals was tested according to the strict directives of DIN EN 71-3. This standard includes precise specifications for approval of children’s toys. megawood® products are the first ones from wood polymer material that have been certified for production of children’s toys. The Dresden-based Entwicklungs- und Prüflabor für Holztechnologie GmbH (development and test laboratory for wood technology) (EPH) has tested megawood® according to the strict directives of DIN EN 71-3 and approved our product for production of children’s toys. Therefore, megawood® is also in this regard a forerunner for healthy and responsible treatment of the young wood-polymer material. 10 | 11 RECYCLING AND ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY Our commitment is taking responsibility for our environment. Open deck Depending on the purpose, open decks can be installed in two different versions: as mounted deck or at ground level. With a mounted deck it is possible to implement continuous transitions, for instance to a threshold. The raised structure of this deck version can be perfectly rounded off in appearance by means of megawood® smooth edge boards. With the ground level deck version, you can create continuous transitions to your lawn surfaces using surrounding lawn edging kerb stones. These open deck variants are recommended when installing pool projects because the necessary background ventilation of the terraces can be ensured. Closed deck A closed, jointless megawood CLASSIC barefoot board, closed deck CLASSIC barefoot board, nut brown, closed deck ® deck with megawood cover strips offers numerous advantages. Apart from a sophisticated appearance, the closed form of the deck prevents losing small pieces. The accurately fitting natural rubber cover strips prevent growth of plants from below, and dirt penetration below the deck is also considerably reduced. Constructing this megawood® deck variant requires more effort in order to ensure sufficient ventilation from below and behind the terrace deck. Closed decks are different from open decks in structure and in execution. The basic condition is an overall structure on stilts with full surrounding ventilation.
