PRAYER UPON ENTERING Holy God, you gather the whole universe into
your radiant presence and continually reveal your Son as our Savior. Bring
healing to all wounds, make whole all that is broken, speak truth to all
illusion, and shed light in every darkness, that all creation will see your glory
and know your Christ. Amen.
WELCOME: We cordially welcome you to the Lord's Service. If you are
worshipping with us for the first time, the following suggestions may be
helpful to you:
Put your bulletin in the back of the hymnal. A panel will stick out on the
right side with the Order of Service. By doing this, both hands are free to
find the liturgy and hymns.
Large print bulletins and hearing devices are available. Please ask an usher
for assistance.
The Music Room, the room to your right before entering the sanctuary,
is available for parents with small children who need to step out during
the service. The service is televised in the Music Room.
The time before the service is a time of prayer and preparation to receive
the Lord’s gifts of salvation. In addition to prayer, look over the readings
and the words to the hymns during this preparation time.
Please turn off all cell phones and refrain from taking pictures during the
service. Thank you.
GUESTS AND THE LORD'S SUPPER: If you desire to commune, please speak
to one of the pastors before the service. Our altar is open to those who
confess oneness with us in doctrine, are members of our congregation or
sister congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and are not
under church discipline in another congregation.
Stewardship Thought for the week...
Mark 1:22 “And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as
one who had authority, and not as the scribes.” Authority is a word we are
sometimes afraid of and don’t like to hear. But that’s just our sinful flesh
talking. Jesus’ authority is something we need. We need him to show us what
to believe and how to live – for Jesus’ authority is always connected to his
love.
STEPHEN MINISTRY: This morning in the 8:00 am service, we welcome
Ann Marie Jacobson and Deb Van Der Weele as new Stephen Ministry
Leaders. They have completed extensive training in this area this past
month in Florida and are looking forward to serving in Trinity's Stephen
Ministry program. Welcome Ann Marie and Deb!

HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE CLASS: Time for The Two Towers movie viewing –
Join us on February 8th at 5:00pm (movie starts at 5:30 p.m) in the Trinity
Lutheran Ministry Center for a second movie viewing of Lord of the Rings
as we continue our Bible Studies series around this great Trilogy. We will
watch The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers to start things off for this
unique and interesting Bible Study. We continue to have Sunday Morning
Bible Class based off of themes from the movie, including some excerpts
from the devotional book, Walking with Frodo. We have already compared
the choices we make of Pride vs. Humility and will continue with
Corruption vs. Integrity, looking to God’s word for guidance on these
choices.
Plan to bring $3 for the main dish (TBD) along with a snack or dessert.
Drinks will be provided. Bring along your favorite blanket, bean bag or
pillow for uber comfort during this 3-hour movie.☺ Invite your friends
from school (all high schoolers are welcome!) and bring them to the
Sunday Bible Class as well. Mr. Gruben
HYMN FEST: As part of the Higher Things Youth Retreat, a hymn fest will
take place at 4:30 pm on Saturday, February 14 in Trinity's church
sanctuary. The hymn fest is open to the public and you are invited to join
us. Mr. Richard C. Ewert is the guest organist. The hymn commentator is
Rev. Harold L. Senkbeil. Mr. Ewert is head organist at Elm Grove Lutheran
Church. He studied under Phyllis Stringham at Carroll College, Waukesha,
where he graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied
Music – Organ Performance. He has been a member of the Milwaukee
Chapter of the American Guild of Organist since 1976 and annually serves
as guest organist on festival occasions in the Milwaukee area. In 1990 and
1992 he, together with Pastor Senkbeil, led hymn heritage tours which
included devotional services utilizing many of the historic organs of
Europe. Mr. Ewert is currently a graduate student at Concordia University
Wisconsin working towards a Masters in Church Music. He is known for
excellence in hymn improvisation and sensitive tonal interpretation of the
nuances of the church’s song.

Many are the sorrows of the | wicked,*
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts | in the LORD.
Blessèd is the one whose transgression is forfor | given,*

Blessèd is the man against whom the LORD counts no in- | iquity,*

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my inin | iquity;*
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave

SWD Missions Prayer for Week of February 1 – This week,
please remember Rev. Dr. Chris Ikanih, pastor of Bethany
Lutheran Church, Milwaukee and missionary to the surrounding
urban neighborhood. Pray that the Lord will use Pastor Ikanih to
lead many souls to their Savior, Jesus Christ, giving them
the hope to
those who face hopelessness every day.
Deuteronomy 18:15–20
15
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among
you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— 16just as you desired
of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said,
‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God or see this great fire any
more, lest I die.’ 17And the LORD said to me, ‘They are right in what they have
spoken. 18I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their
brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them
all that I command him. 19And whoever will not listen to my words that he
shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him. 20But the prophet who
presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to
speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall
die.”
1 Corinthians 8:1–13
Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess
knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2If anyone
imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to
know. 3But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. 4Therefore, as to the
eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,”
and that “there is no God but one.” 5For although there may be so-called
gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many
“lords”— 6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things
and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all
things and through whom we exist. 7However, not all possess this
knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as
really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8Food
will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no
better off if we do. 9But take care that this right of yours does not somehow
become a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if anyone sees you who have
knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his
conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11And so by your knowledge
this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12Thus,
sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is
weak, you sin against Christ. 13Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble,
I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

Mark 1:21–28
And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath [Jesus]
entered the synagogue and was teaching. 22And they were astonished at his
teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the
scribes. 23And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an
unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24“What have you to do with us, Jesus of
Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One
of God.” 25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”
26
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice,
came out of him. 27And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among
themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He
commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28And at once his
fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

Notes on Today's Service
Treasures from the Church: “Whatever sins or uncleanness or unclean
spirits seek to possess you, haunt you, enslave you, or entice you, they
can no longer rule you. For Jesus has come. He has come to expel them
and set you free.” – Rev. James Douthewaite
Summary of the Readings: As He promised, the Lord our God has
raised up “a prophet” like Moses, namely Jesus, our brother in the flesh.
“To him you shall listen,” because the Word of the Lord is “in his mouth”
(Deut. 18:15–18). Indeed, He is more than a prophet and more than a
scribe of the Scriptures; He is the incarnate Word, and He speaks “a new
teaching with authority” (Mark 1:22, 27). He enters “the synagogue” of
His Church and provides true Sabbath rest, using His authority to silence
and cast out “even the unclean spirits” (Mark 1:21–27). By His Word of
the cross, He removes the accusations of the Law and of the devil, and
He cleanses our consciences before God the Father, “from whom are all
things and for whom we exist.” Hence, we are now set free from bondage
and commended to God by the one Lord, Jesus Christ, “through whom
are all things and through whom we exist” (1 Cor. 8:6). Therefore, use
your freedom to care for your brothers and sisters, neither causing them
to stumble nor wounding their consciences (1 Cor. 8:9–12), but cleansing
and strengthening them with the Gospel.
Why Come to Church? – Reason #5: “To feed your soul. Feed the soul?
Does the soul need nourishment? According to Scripture, yes. There we
are reminded, 'man does not live on bread alone but on every word that
comes from the mouth of the LORD' (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4).
There we are encouraged, 'like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of
the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation' (1 Peter 2:2).
God's Word is food for the soul. Public worship is the best place to give
your soul the Word-of-God-nourishment it needs. In another place Jesus
says, 'Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which
endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you' (John 6:27).
How tragic to see people zealously provide for their bodies but not their
souls.” – Dr. Richard P. Bucher
Sermon: The television show M*A*S*H was one of my favorites when
growing up. A running joke in the older episodes was how Colonel Blake
could never get anyone’s attention. He would yell over and over for his
troops to be quiet but it was like he wasn’t even there. His word had no
authority. In contrast, his company clerk Radar O’Reilly would simply
say the word “quiet,” and you could hear a pin drop. In our text for
today, Jesus illustrates His authority when He says to the unclean spirit,
“Be silent, and come out of him!” The unclean spirit cries out for the last
time and is expelled from the man forever. He says not another word.
Everyone was amazed.
LOVE IN ACTION TREE: The Love Comes Down at
Christmas tree in the lounge changing!!. It is now a
“Love in Action”” tree for this winter. Congregational
members are encouraged to submit needs for help,
which might be addressed by other members of the

Trinity member then can take that note off the tree and contact the
submitting individual to arrange to help him/her. Watch the tree to see
