Which means, more than ever before, that there’s room for you to use science and health to make a big difference. This course is the first step. DURATION 3 years full-time PART – TIME Available* CLEARLY-IN ATAR 65 INTAKE February and July CAMPUS Launceston What’s involved About this course This 3-year course is designed to prepare you for a range of career paths in the health sector – giving you the freedom to tailor your units to suit you. In the first year, learn the foundations of life sciences, and be introduced to community health care and management. In your second year, you’ll study more core units, as well as some elective units. Your final year will see you studying more elective units and begin to specialise. By the end of the course, you will have taken at least four units from one of these areas: − Bioscience – where you’ll gain a greater understanding of how the human body works, of health and disease, and of the biochemical diagnosis of those diseases − Business/Psychology – If you’re interested in the ins and outs of health care organisations, these units will give you a background in how those businesses operate – and of the people who work within them − Public Health & Lifestyle – In these units, you’ll learn interactive communication skills – and gain a deeper knowledge of community and public health. The Bachelor of Health Science could also provide a platform for futher study in Exercise Science, Enivronmental Health and Biomedical Science at the University. Where it can take you Career outcomes The Bachelor of Health Science gives you the freedom to tailor your degree to suit you. So naturally, the employment opportunities once you’ve graduated are just as vast – both in government and non-government medical and general health services, as well as health research organisations. You could find yourself making a difference in: − Health sector project management − Health promotion through your work in community health groups, welfare agencies, general practices or self help groups − Clinical research − Sales representation across a broad range of medical and health products (including diagnostic equipment and pharmaceuticals) − Rehabilitation, and health and fitness education − Health administration and management *Part-time study is not available to international students who are studying in Australia on a student visa. The course is also relevant to health care professionals who are already working in the industry, and are looking for a degree qualification. If you’re aiming for a career in teaching health, food studies and science, you could continue studying in the Master of Teaching. And if it’s a career in allied health you’ve got your sights set on, postgraduate courses in areas including nutrition and dietetics, audiology, occupational health or physiotherapy are all available. In fact, a limited number of places are available for graduates of this degree who want to transfer into the Master of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia (UniSA). This is possible because of an agreement between the University of Tasmania and UniSA.
