Completed registration includes: • Student and Advisor Registration forms for each person (pages 7 & 8). These may be mailed or scanned and emailed to: [email protected] • Convention Agreement form and Student Media Release form (pages 9 & 10) for each student delegate must be received by the convention host no later than February 27th at the on-­‐site convention check in. • Payment (payable to: Jefferson High School/FASC Treasurer) must be received in order for the registration process to be completed. The on-­‐time registration fee is $175 per student or advisor and must be postmarked by January 16, 2015. The late registration fee is $185 per student or advisor and must be postmarked by February 6, 2015. This convention is limited to 1,600 delegates. If this limit is reached before your school’s complete registration is received and processed, you will be notified and registration fees will be returned to you. There is no limit to the number of delegates that may be registered by a school. Shirts and gifts for schools that register late may be substituted for similar sizes or items based on availability. Submit your registration on time to guarantee that your school receives all items. Due to the nature of this convention, there will be no refunds for cancellations after January 16th of any kind. Delegate substitutions may be made until February 16, 2015. Substitute Delegates are not guaranteed to receive their shirt size. If you require transportation from and to the Airport, contact the hotel you are staying at so their shuttles can pick you up. The school is no more than one quarter of a mile from any of the convention hotels -­‐ in easy walking distance. If you are unable to walk, hotel shuttles may be utilized. Directions to Jefferson High School If you are coming from the east on I-­‐4, or from the north on I-­‐75 you will follow signs to 275 south bound St Pete. Drive south until you see the exit ramp 40A Westshore Blvd on the right. Once you exit you will take a right onto Westshore Blvd., then take your first right onto Cypress and continue on Cypress. Cars and vans will park on Trask St, which is the first left at the light. Busses continue past the school and turn in at the main entrance. If you are coming from the south on I-­‐75 you have the option of taking I-­‐275 North over the Skyway Bridge (toll). Continue on 275 through St. Pete and over the Howard Franklin Bridge. Take exit 39 Kennedy Blvd. Continue to Westshore Blvd. Turn Left onto Westshore Blvd. and continue to Cypress and turn right. School on left. If you choose not to take the Skyway continue north on I-­‐75 and take I-­‐4 to Tampa and follow top instructions. If you come by bus, the parking will be located in the front of the school on Cypress St. If you are coming by car or van, parking will be on Trask St. Feel free to park at your hotel as well. Convention Attire Convention attire is casual, yet we hope that “FASC 2015: Leadership Around The World” will be a first class event. Workshops are an excellent opportunity for your students to showcase their talents and hone their leadership skills. Awards Program Schools are encouraged to submit entries to the FASC awards program. Categories include a Parliamentary Procedure contest, speech contest, ten Project of the Year categories, the Medallion Council Program, and many more. For details on the FASC Awards Program, visit the FASC website: http://fasa.net/fasc/ Advisor Roundtables On Saturday afternoon, Advisor Roundtables will be hosted in the JHS Media Center. Advisor Roundtables are an excellent opportunity to showcase a unique project or idea, leadership class syllabus or course structure, or anything else that you believe would be interesting or beneficial to other Florida Advisors. If you would like to volunteer to lead an Advisor Roundtable Presentation, please email Donald Hills, JHS Student Council Advisor, at [email protected] and let us know what topic you would like to present. I understand that I will be contacted, if possible, in the event my child requires medical attention. I grant, to a licensed health care provider or accredited hospital, permission to perform any medical and/or surgical procedures that are essential for the treatment of my child and agree to be responsible for any payment of such care. The FASC is committed to the safety and well-­‐being of every participant, student or adult, so everyone will have an enjoyable time and have a positive convention experience. The following guidelines have been established to communicate the expectations for delegate behavior prior to the convention. GENERAL GUIDELINES: 1. Attend all convention sessions at the designated times and places. Once the convention begins and until it ends, delegates cannot deviate from the stated schedule with alternative plans, or visit relatives or friends in the area. 2. Respect the rights and safety of others. Students exhibiting irresponsible behavior that endangers the health, safety, or welfare of themselves or others will be sent home immediately at their expense and their school’s administration will be notified. Students are expected to demonstrate respect toward other students, advisors, presenters, and guests. Always display the appropriate mode of behavior of any student council position. 3. The following will NOT be allowed during presentations unless otherwise specified: cell phones/texting, hand held games, or mp3 players. Since delegates will be occupied throughout the convention, advisors should be called if a student needs to be contacted. 4. Understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited. Any student found in possession or under the influence of any illegal drug or alcohol will be expelled from the convention and turned over to his or her advisor. The student will be sent home without delay at his/her expense. An FASC representative will notify both the student’s principal and parents of the infraction. Law enforcement will be notified if a delegate violates any civil or criminal laws. 5. No food or drink is allowed in general sessions. 6. Stay in a safe, supervised environment. Unsupervised students may not leave the convention at any time. 7. Respect the property of others. Students are not to take objects from convention areas or any other property or venue that is visited. Theft and vandalism will not be tolerated. 8. Acknowledge that all advisors at the FASC convention are authority figures and are to be treated as such. HOTEL ETIQUETTE: 1. Be courteous to other hotel guests and honor their privacy and need for rest. 2. Respect the property of others. Students are not to take objects from hotel rooms, convention areas or any other property visited. 3. Delegates must obey the rules of the hotel facilities. 4. Do not throw anything out of windows or over balconies. 5. Do not run in the hallways. 6. Noise should be kept at a low, reasonable volume inside and outside of the room. 7. Individuals are responsible for damage to any hotel property or furnishings and are financially responsible for its repair or replacement. 8. The hotel facilities have the right to ask a delegate to leave. 11 DRESS GUIDELINES: It is expected that all delegates attending the 2015 FASC Convention will adhere to the following dress guidelines. Delegates in violation of these guidelines will be required to change into appropriate attire. Appropriate Dress: Shorts
Girls: long shorts (i.e. Bermuda short); no “short” shorts, cheerleading shorts, miniskirts, etc. Nothing shorter than finger tips length Boys: cargo, khaki, or jean style shorts only; no athletic shorts. Delegates may wear athletic shorts for outdoor activities on Sunday morning. No sagging pants No pants with rips, tears or holes that show skin or underwear Shirts must have sleeves; no tank tops; no spaghetti straps; no low-­‐cut shirts No midriff shirts; no cut-­‐off shirts. Shirts and pants, shorts, etc. must overlap in the middle Convention t-­‐shirts may not be altered in any way until after the convention ends No hats/caps worn inside Footwear must be worn at all times. Stage Attire: Anyone who appears on stage as at any time (speakers, candidates, etc.) must be dressed in formal business attire, as if you were a lawyer. Candidate skits are an exception to “Stage Attire,” but must adhere to convention dress guidelines. On-­‐stage attire guidelines are as follows: Girls Skirts must be at the knee. Dresses, shirts, tops must have sleeves or be worn with a cardigan and may not be skin-­‐ tight.
