The criteria for selecting students for admission into CTE ECHS - Spruce are as follows:




Be a resident of the Dallas Independent School District
The applicant must meet the requirements for promotion from 8th grade to 9th grade.
The applicant must have completed ALL portions of the application for admission.
The applicant and parent/guardian must go through an interview process with CTE ECHS Spruce staff

Teacher Recommendation Form
CTE Early College High School - Spruce is a collaboration between the Dallas Independent School District and Eastfield
College. Collaboration of this kind provides an atmosphere that blends high school and college into a coherent
educational program.
CTE ECHS - Spruce curriculum is demanding and requires a high level of commitment on the part of the student.
Recommendation from the student’s teachers is an important part of the application process in addition to an interview
and essay. Students should select one teacher (Math, Science, or English) to complete a recommendation form on their
behalf.

What is Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology (HVAC)?
HVAC is Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems, which control the temperature, humidity, and air quality in buildings. Refrigeration
systems is also included, which make it possible to store and transport food, medicine, and other perishable items. Students will learn to install,
repair, and maintain these systems to meet environmental and safety regulations.
What is CADD?
CADD is Computer Aided Design and Drafting. In this program, students will use computers and special programs to create precise 2-D drawings
and 3-D renderings/models related to architecture, construction, electronic design, and building engineering.
What is Digital Media?
Digital Media is a creative field where students will learn the skills to be graphic designers (movie posters, advertisements), photographers,
videographers, or e-Publication designers. They will use programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After-Effects while building
their drawing skills and a portfolio of their work.
What is Mechatronics?
Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical energy and electronics for computer control in the design and manufacture of industrial products.
Students will be working to master the machines related to robotics, automated manufacturing, packaging, automobiles, airplanes, vending
machines, gaming, ATM machines, heating and cooling systems, and renewable energy systems.
