USE Under Challenging Conditions:
H & S Autokrane Relies on the Terex® Challenger
3160 All Terrain Crane for Hoisting Pipelines
A decisive criterion when choosing
a crane model is the intended area of
operation, which, for the H & S
Autokrane mobile crane company of
Hesse, Germany, is particularly
demanding. The enterprise is a
contracting party for the German
fertilizer and salt producer Kali- und
Salzwerke. This means that the
working equipment of H & S Autokrane
needs to be reliable in challenging
conditions marked by two extremes: a
lack of space in the company’s factory
buildings and a high salt content in the air that is extremely detrimental to the
equipment. It is in this harsh environment that the cranes of H & S are at work, such
as for installing and removing pipelines. For such jobs, the company mainly relies on
its Terex® Challenger 3160 all terrain crane.
“A Crane like a Balloon”
H & S field crew member Herbert Schug describes the requirements for the ideal
crane in this location: “To work here, a crane actually needs to be like a balloon: really
small when it pulls in, and large with a long boom in the structures. Moreover, it needs
to be able to lift heavy loads. The Challenger 3160 all terrain crane comes the closest
to fulfilling this ideal.”
Thanks to its compact design with a short carrier and excellent maneuverability,
the Challenger 3160 crane scores points in the cramped conditions on the Kali- und
Salzwerke site of the mine operator. Its very generous, 50-meter-long (164 ft) boom
system also proves to be perfect for the job: The loads – while not needing to be lifted
particularly high – have to be hoisted with a very wide radius, such as for moving
them underneath pipeline bridges. “Since the telescoping action of the Challenger
3160 crane also works horizontally, it is perfectly suited to our purposes,” states crane
driver Jens Hartung. In addition, the H & S model used is also equipped with an
runner, which makes it possible to utilize the available workspace almost right up to
the ceiling of the building.
About the Terex® Challenger 3160 All Terrain Crane
The three-axle, 55-tonne (60 US ton) capacity class Terex® Challenger 3160 all terrain
crane has a 50-m (164 ft) single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting
capacity of 35.6 tonnes (39.3 US tons) when working with a reach of four meters. The
Terex Challenger 3160 all terrain crane can be operated independently by a single
person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes 13.2 US tons).

ABA Cranes Ltd, one of the UK’s largest crane
hire companies, has added a fourth Grove
GMK4100L all-terrain crane to its fleet. The
latest unit arrived in September, bringing the
company’s total fleet of Grove cranes to 13,
which it provides to a wide variety of job sites
across the midlands.
ABA’s Grove cranes are always at work.
The only time they spend at their base in
Bloxwich is for routine maintenance, which
company manager Dale England is delighted
with.
“We keep buying Grove cranes because we
know they earn their keep,” he says. “They are
very versatile units that are quick to set-up and
easy to use. Hardly ever seeing them means
they are doing a good job and I am sure we
will buy more Grove cranes in the future.”
ABA bought its first Grove crane in the year
2000. Since then, the company has regularly
added to its fleet, which now includes cranes
with capacities from 35 t to 130 t. The
company bought its first Grove GMK4100L in
2007.
The Grove cranes are deployed at a wide
range of construction and individual lift
projects. Recent jobs have seen the cranes install an industrial chimney stack at a
processing plant, lift pre-fabricated structures and general materials at a residential
development, and placing static caravans at a holiday park.
Grove’s GMK4100L is a
100 t capacity, four-axle, allterrain crane. It offers an
impressive 60 m main boom,
which can be extended to 77 m
with a jib. The GMK4100L is
built at Grove’s manufacturing
plant
in
Wilhelmshaven,
Germany.
Established in 1980,
ABA has more than 35
employees. The company’s 28
operators tend to stick to the
same crane, making that

Cranes and Equipment Rental
Five New Grove Cranes Boost
Tiong Woon’s Singapore Fleet
One of Asia’s largest crane operating companies has taken delivery of one of
the largest orders ever received for Grove’s hugely popular GMK6300L allterrain crane. The order was placed by Tiong Woon Crane & Transport Pte. Ltd., who
signed the deal for five of the class-leading 300 t capacity GMK6300L all-terrain
cranes earlier this year. All five of the units have been delivered to the company’s
Singapore headquarters.
With this latest order complete, there are now 18 Grove cranes in the Tiong Woon
fleet, all of which have arrived in the past seven years. The company uses the cranes,
including the new GMK6300L units, on a variety of industrial and construction projects
for clients across the Southeast Asia region.
The ground-breaking, five-crane deal was commemorated at the bauma China
2014 trade show in Shanghai, China at the end of November, with senior management
figures from both Tiong Woon and Manitowoc in attendance. Among those at the
Shanghai event was Tiong Woon chairman, Ang Kah Hong, who explained why the
company has been consistently building its fleet of Grove cranes and, in particular,
why the GMK6300L will be such an important addition.
“Grove cranes are very popular units with our customers,” he said. “When the
Grove GMK6300L was launched in 2010 we could see that its onboard innovation
gave it capabilities that other cranes didn’t have, particularly with its 80 m boom. We
watched the arrival of the first units in Asia with interest and quickly realized that this
crane would be a great solution for many of our customers. It was only a matter of time
until we ordered our own, and we saw such strong potential for the GMK6300L that
we ordered five units.”
The Grove GMK6300L is a
six-axle, all-terrain crane and, in
addition to its 300 t capacity and
class-leading 80 m main boom, it
also features Grove’s unique
MEGATRAK
independent
suspension, as well as all-wheel
steer for easier navigation of job
sites.
Over the past seven years,
Tiong Woon has invested
steadily in Grove cranes, and its
confidence in the brand has
grown continuously. Tiong Celebrating Tiong Woon’s purchase of five Grove
Woon’s Grove fleet includes GMK6300L all-terrain cranes during the bauma

Comansa Jie Introduces the New
11CJ132-6t in Shanghai
Most successful Bauma China Trade Show Ever for the Tower Crane Manufacturer
Comansa Jie launched at the
Bauma China trade fair in
Shanghai her new 11CJ132-6t
flat-top tower crane, the first
model from the CJ1100 series.
With six tons of maximum load,
it is the smallest model from Comansa Jie to date, with which
the Chinese manufacturer expects to gain market share in
countries such as China, India
and the South East Asia.
The 11CJ132 can be erected with a jib length from 30 and 60 meters, with configurations each 2.5 meters, allowing to perfectly adapt the reach of the crane to the conditions of each jobsite. The fixed version of the 11CJ132-6t has a maximum freestanding
height of 57.4 meters, although it could exceed 108 meters combining different types of
tower sections.
This new model is the first from Comansa Jie to include
the PowerLift system, developed by her parent company in
Spain, Linden Comansa. The PowerLift system improves the
load diagram of the 11CJ132-6t up to 10% with reduced
speeds, allowing the crane to load, for example, 1,320 kilos at
the jib end (60 meters) instead of a load of 1,200 kilos without
PowerLift. This system comes standard and is very easy to use.
Comansa Jie expects to gradually include this system in all
models.
Regarding the trade fair, the results have been superb.
"Our booth was full all of the time; we met with all our major
customers and distributors, and were able to meet very interesting new potential customers. Most importantly, we
made agreements worth more than 10
million dollars, which will benefit both Comansa Jie in China and Linden Comansa in Spain. And there are still many
operations to close, so we can ensure
that the 2014 edition of Bauma China
was the best of all times for us", says
Andy Huang, Comansa Jie General
Manger.

Manitowoc Appoints
New Potain Dealer for Mexico
Ibergruas, a leading Potain dealer and rental company headquartered in Madrid,
Spain, has just added Manitowoc’s tower crane lines to its offerings in Mexico.
The two companies began their partnership in Spain three decades ago and are now
extending their venture to Latin America.
“We’re proud to offer the best products and services to our customers in Mexico,”
said Ramón Arroyo Ortega, general director at Ibergruas in Mexico. “Our partnership
with Potain in the country brings together the best tower cranes in the market and
our 30 years of expertise in the industry.”
Ibergruas celebrated the announcement at Expo CIHAC 2014, Mexico's largest
construction industry event, in October. The company’s Mexico City branch
specifically chose to feature the Igo 18 self-erecting crane at the event.
Already known for its ease of transport, a large portion of the 53,000 attendees
was attracted by the Igo 18’s quiet electric motors, variable frequency motor drives
and overload protection system. Ibergruas believes the 2 USt capacity crane will be
a valuable tool for Mexico’s growth in housing and other construction.
The Igo 18 features a 78.7 ft jib and can lift 0.8 USt at jib end. It is designed with
a small rear-slewing radius to ensure maneuverability even at the most congested
job sites. The crane can also be operated with a wireless remote control that
provides information to the operator, including wind speed, radius, hook height, load
and moment.
According to Jean Pierre Zaffiro, Manitowoc’s global product director for Potain
self-erecting cranes, Ibergruas was chosen to represent Potain, and notably, its Igo
self-erecting line for the company’s commitment to the Potain brand and its products.
Ibergruas will also promote
and distribute the top-slewing
range of Manitowoc’s Potain
tower cranes in Mexico. For
Thibaut Le Besnerais, global
product director for Manitowoc’s
Potain top-slewing tower crane
line, the country presents great
opportunities, as investments in
energy are spurring economic
activity.
Ibergruas
began
its
operations in Latin America with
used equipment in 2012. It
began doing business in Mexico
in early 2014, and has been Ramón Arroyo Ortega, Ibergruas; Jean Pierre
involved in large-scale projects, Zaffiro, Manitowoc; Antonio Bello Gil, Ibergruas;
such as bridge and high-rise Antonio Bello Diaz de Figueroa, Ibergruas; and

New Addition to the Family:
The Most Compact All Terrain Crane in the
130-Tonne Class with the New Explorer 5500
New CRANES EXPERT APP Allows Customers
to Make Informed Buying Decisions by Giving
Access to the Full TEREX Story
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, 20.11.2014
– With the new Explorer 5500
crane, Terex Cranes is
expanding its successful
Explorer series by adding a
new model in the 130-tonne
capacity class. Just like its “big
brothers,” the Explorer 5600
and 5800 cranes, the Explorer
5500 crane convinces with its
impressive performance data.
The new crane features a
60 meter long main boom;
three extensions of 11, 21, and
33 meters in length are available, all of which can be offset. The maximum system
length is 86.5 meters. The maximum load moment is 395 meter tonnes, with the
maximum lifting capacity when telescoping 24.5 tonnes. Outrigger extension positions
of 2.54, 4.7, and 7.0 meters can be selected. With a carrier length of 12.1 meters, a
total length of 14.3 meters, and a width of 2.75 meters, this 5-axle crane is more
compact than any other in its capacity class, which enables it to be used inside cities
as well as on narrow construction sites. In addition, steerable axles provide good
maneuverability in tight quarters. For comfort and safety in driving operation the new
Explorer 5500 crane has a dynamic launch control function that prevents the crane
from rolling backwards when starting up and maneuvering on uphill grades.
Thanks to various configuration options, the new Explorer 5500 crane can be
adapted to fulfill the road service approval regulations of key markets for this capacity
class. This is possible with variable axle loads and axle pair intervals, the dismountable
main boom, transport dolly preparation, a maximum front overhang of 1.52 meters,
and other features.
With the Innovative Terex Single-Motor Concept
The new Explorer 5500 crane also features the innovative Terex single-motor
concept already seen on the Explorer 5600 and Explorer 5800. This lowers the
operating costs even further, since only one motor requires maintenance. Terex has
outfitted this system to give it special technical sophistication. The control system
automatically recognizes each demand; for instance, it switches from high power
in driving operation to energy-saving mode during crane operation. Moreover, the
system also has an energy-saving start/stop function. The motor is a powerful and,
at the same time, economical 368 kW unit that meets emission standards Euromot
4 and Tier 4 (final). On request, a 331 kW motor for Euromot 3a / Tier 3 is also
available in applicable markets.
December 10th, 2014 – For crane owners, having
easily accessible, accurate and in-depth
equipment information is essential for their
success. Taking advantage of today’s latest
digital technology, Terex Cranes introduces
Cranes Expert, the lifting industry’s first
electronic application designed specifically for
crane companies. This latest Terex innovation
delivers available equipment information in ways
not possible with printed literature by giving
customers unprecedented access to the company’s expansive range of media
information.
Available for both iOS and Android operating systems, the new Cranes Expert
app conveniently puts specific Terex crane model information at customer’s fingertips
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It brings together all available crane model marketing
information –equipment brochures, datasheets, photography, 3-D panoramic views
and videos – into one convenient location, so lifting equipment companies can make
more informed buying decisions.
“Using the Cranes Expert App, customers can now see the full Terex story for
themselves,” says Sven Ebinger, Director of Global Communication and Brand Management for Terex Cranes. “Our app goes well beyond the printed piece of literature.
In one user-friendly program, customers now have access to our entire media library.”
“Terex Cranes has one of the industry’s most complete, accurate and user-friendly
electronic media databases,” adds Ebinger. “Technology has made it possible for us
to move well beyond the printed datasheet, making a broad range of information
available digitally in ways not possible with paper. Customers can, for example, now
see a Terex all terrain crane move from lift to lift within five hours rather than just
reading about it, and they can take a virtual test ride in the Superlift 3800 crane with
the cab panoramic versus simply looking at pictures.” By offering quick, convenient
access to the expansive crane equipment media library, Terex Cranes is helping
customers to make more informed buying decisions.
The Cranes Expert App is available for tablets from the iPad App Store and the
Google Play Store. Once installed, customers can download the entire Terex crane
equipment media library or just specific crane model information. Once downloaded,
equipment information is quickly accessed anytime, day or night, with or
without an internet connection.
When new crane information is added to the media library, the
application will automatically sync with Terex Cranes servers when opened,
so the new items are quickly available for download. A “push” notification
system will proactively alert customers when updates are available.

Mobi-Hub Uses Terex® CC2800-1 Lattice Boom
Crawler Crane to Erect Wind Turbine Near Koblenz
KOBLENZ, Germany, November 27th, 2014 –
“From the factory to the work site – putting
a crane to work can’t get any faster than
that,” enthuses Frank Strempel, who is
responsible for the large cranes operated by
Berlin-based crane service provider MobiHub. His comment refers to the company’s
new Terex® CC 2800-1crawler crane, which
was taken directly from the manufacturer’s
facilities in Zweibrücken to a work site near
Koblenz, Germany in order to erect an
ENERCON wind turbine.
While the crane was on its way from
Zweibrücken to the Rhineland, 31 heavy
haulage vehicles were also traveling from Berlin
to the work site, carrying all the components
that would be required for the project. A series
of challenges awaited the team at the site: The space available there was extremely
limited because the wind turbine was being erected right in the middle of a forest and
the path that had been cleared for the vehicles was relatively narrow. In addition the
crane’s boom, which had a total length of 150 meters (492 feet), had to be assembled
on sloping terrain. This also proved to be challenging for the assist crane required for
the assembly operation, as it could not be placed just anywhere on the steep terrain.
Despite all this, the team was able to set up the crane with six assembly technicians
and have it ready to go in only two days. The crane’s ease of assembly made it
possible to quickly set up the machine despite the series of adverse circumstances.
Moreover, the Mobi-Hub team was assisted by Terex service technicians while setting
up the crane, as it was the first time the company was using the crane model.
The CC 2800-1 crawler crane was set up with a 138-meter (452.7 feet) S7 boom,
a 12-meter (39.3 feet) fixed jib offset by 10°, and 180 tonnes (198 US tons) of
counterweight, ensuring that it would be optimally configured for the task at hand.
This configuration enabled it to safely handle the three main lifts required to erect the
wind turbine, which had a hub height of 130 meters (426.5 feet), while working with
working radii of 20 to 22 meters (56.6 to 72.2 feet). The team estimated a total of
three days for the work: On the first day, The CC 2800-1 crawler crane lifted the 48tonne (52.9 US ton) nacelle and the generator, which was the heaviest wind turbine
component at a weight of 71 tonnes (78.3 US tons). On the second day, the rotor,
weighing about 68 tonnes (75 US tons), was assembled on the ground so that it could
be lifted on time on the third. This required the crane to move towards the wind
turbine, with the load already rigged, on an extra gravel path that had already been
laid earlier.

Stephenson Equipment Opens Their
New Crane Shop in Harrisburg, PA
Stephenson Equipment Opens
Their New Crane Shop in Harrisburg, PA
Since Stephenson Equipment was established in 1957,
they have always been driven to
keep their customers satisfied.
Stephenson’s new crane shop
building is one more step they
have taken to satisfy their customers needs. Dale Heiner, VP of
Service Operations for Stephenson gives a few highlights of the new crane shop building just completed at their Harrisburg, PA location. “Our new shop has a 40ft. ceiling height with four 100 ft. deep
bays, a 15 ton two hoist overhead crane
spanning the entire 12,000 sq.ft. building that
features radiant floor heat. We also constructed a new 4,000 sq.ft. test pad giving us
the ability to better inspect and test a crane
after repairs have been completed.”
Dale says “There is something that was
said to me many years ago by Stephenson
Equipment owner Dennis Heller - Always try
to do what is right, for our customers and for
Stephenson Equipment. If what we do benefits both, then it is the right thing to do.
This new crane shop reminds me of that statement.”
“The new shop benefits our customers, the manufacturers we represent and
Stephenson by shortened repair
times and improved quality due to
the ability to perform more repairs
within the shop safely vs. outside
repairs in varying weather and
safety conditions.”
The new shop is still staffed by
Stephenson’s highly trained technicians, Stephenson employs over
125 customer focused employees
across their 7 locations in Pennsylvania and New York.
Stephenson Equipment - one
company with complete lifting solutions, offering crane sales, rentals, parts, service,
