2013 | 2014 THRASHER-HORNE CENTER FOR THE ARTS SEASON 10 IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ARTS I T’S A TE N! Dear THCA Members and Patrons, It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the tenth season. For nine seasons, the THCA has remained dedicated to presenting the very best of professional theater, dance, music performances and visual art exhibits. So it should come as no surprise that season ten will be ALL ABOUT THE ARTS! Last fall I asked our THCA members to pick their favorite performances from the past. The response was overwhelming! As you view this book, make sure to pay attention to the THCA member selections, which are designated as a “THCA Member Pick.” I urge you to consider adding one, two or all of our members’ picks when planning your tenth season ticket purchases. The tenth season begins on a musical note with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Immediately following is a week-long residency, schooltime and evening main stage performance by one of the most vibrant and vital contemporary dance companies in America- River North Dance Chicago. A sure highlight of season ten will be the February appearance of legendary stage and screen actress Debbie Reynolds. Her delightful performance will be full of song, dance and personal reminisces of her incredible career. Television fans of The Dukes of Hazzard will be thrilled to experience the musical side of the actor behind Luke Duke- Tom Wopat. As a celebrated television, movie and Broadway star, Wopat returns to his first love- music, in I’ve Got Your Number! Since its first season, in 2004-05, THCA Broadway and off-Broadway performances continue to not only entertain audiences, but help the center fulfill its mission of presenting the best in professional touring productions. For season 10, our Broadway and off-Broadway hits are Godspell, Menopause the Musical, and The Fantasticks. A first- class touring production of the Pulitzer Prize winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, performed by the talented cast of Philadelphia- based Walnut Street Theatre, is also included in the series. The THCA Broadway and off selections would not be complete without a visit from your favorite ladies of the church basement in their new performance, A Mighty Fortress is Our Basement! Responding to your request for more dance performances, the tenth season features international dance from the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, the Moscow Ballet Theatre’s production of Swan Lake and Michael Londra’s newest production, Celtic Fire! As a community, we will once again celebrate Christmas with the THCA’s number one Member Pick, our annual holiday spectacular Clay County Christmas! The tenth season has plenty of musical concerts. Returning are THCA Member Pick, The Bronx Wanderers and the incredibly talented musicians of Classic Albums Live with their performance of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album. The achievement of reaching this tenth season is noteworthy, and our season of cultural arts offerings matches this celebratory milestone. I invite you to be part of the excitement by becoming a member. By supporting the THCA as a season member, you will enjoy special perks. Make time to review the membership information contained in this book, or better yet, speak to a member of the Box Office staff. I can’t wait for you to enjoy the tenth season …It’s ALL ABOUT THE ARTS!
