Introduction
This directory aims to provide New York City hospitals, healthcare facilities, and city response agencies with a
comprehensive resource of pediatric critical care services offered by NYC hospitals that includes information and
instructions on admission and/or transfer of critically ill pediatric patients to hospitals with Pediatric Intensive
Care Units (PICU). This guide is intended to provide information for daily referrals and inter-hospital transfers as
well as to assist healthcare providers to care for pediatric patients during a disaster when their typical referral
choices may not be available.
Data for this project was collected by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Healthcare
Emergency Preparedness Program during 2006-2007 as part of the Pediatric Resources and Emergency
Preparedness Initiative (PREP-I) Project. This project was funded by the Department of Health and Human
Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Grant Number U3RHS07565.
The DOHMH recognizes that the healthcare system is dynamic, undergoing frequent change. The information
presented in this Directory will be updated on a yearly basis. In the interim, please send any updates to the
Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Program at [email protected].
