FEBRUARY 2015 RESIDENT OF THE MONTH
Phyllis was born in Jackson, she lived in Stockbridge until the age
of four, when her family moved to Flint for her father’s job. After
the depression, the family moved to Parma, where her father
owned a grocery store. Phyllis graduated from Parma High School
and met her husband, Sam. They were married soon after her
graduation. Phyllis has five children, four sons and one daughter.
While living in their second house, the kids raised animals during
the summer, including cows, goats and ponies. Sam was in the
construction business and built both of the homes Phyllis and her
family lived in throughout the years. Phyllis just recently sold the
second house that they built while living here at Spring Arbor
Assisted Living.
Phyllis is an accomplished painter, she has given lessons to others
and much of her own artwork is displayed in her apartment.
Phyllis also enjoys collecting things. She has several collections
some of which consist of angels, thimbles, tea pots, birds and
beanie babies. Phyllis also enjoys gardening, growing house
plants, knitting and crocheting and sewing. Phyllis and her
family enjoyed a few trips to Florida until it got to be too much
work to take a family of seven on vacation.
Phyllis enjoys trivia, word games, visiting with new friends and
trying new things. We are glad to have Phyllis here at S.A.A.L.
