won 3rd place in the Contemporary Dance
Category in the Senior Age Division at the
Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP). The YAGP
is an annual international student ballet
competition open to dance students 8-19
years old. We’re proud of you, Timothy!
Former Fairbanks Raven student Quinn Evenson
gets to experience his first World Junior Curling
Championships! Quinn and his teammates on
Minnesota 2 captured the men’s title Saturday on
the U.S. Junior National Curling Championships in
Devils Lake, North Dakota. They will represent the
U.S. at the 2015 World Junior Championships in
Tallinn, Estonia, February 28-March 8.

Outstanding Student Achievements & Start Strong
Lego RObOtics
The Anchorage LEGO Robotics teams competed in the
regional qualifier competition on Saturday, January 10th
at Central Middle School. All three teams qualified to
attend the State Competition! Way to go!!
Jr. LEGO RObOtics
The Anchorage Jr. LEGO Robotics teams participated in
the regional expo on Saturday, January 17th at
South High School. All three teams presented wellprepared projects to the judges. We’re proud of you!

Fifty-one students enjoyed docent-led tours in the Alaska History Gallery and Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center; guided investigations which
taught students about subsistence; a scavenger hunt in the “Art of the North” Gallery; and free time in the Imaginarium Discovery Center.

Beading Class at The Alaska Bead Company

Students in grades 3-6, join us for this fun class! Students will choose from
a variety of beads and an assortment of charms to create 2 zipper pulls
and 2 window sun-catchers! Limited space available. Cost: $30/student.

Let’s learn about the Iditarod and kick off our reading version of the race. Even if

Illuminating the Path to College & Career Readiness
Wednesday, February 11 at 12:30-2:30pm
High school students, this will be a two-part workshop presented by Frank
Coenraad at UAS. The first part will include what students need to be college and
career ready when they graduate from high school. The second part of the
session will delve into college exploration and the college application process.

ART activity: Quilting with Fractions and symmetry
Friday, February 13 & 20 at 3:15-4:30pm
Theresa will lead this two-part activity for students in grades 3-12 using a
Project ARTiculate kit! Students will learn about the history of quilt making. They
then cut shapes from squares using equivalent fractions and design the center
and border squares using vertical, horizontal and diagonal symmetry. Please
RSVP to Holly ([email protected]) so we can prepare enough materials.
Family Literacy Engagement Workshop
Tuesday, February 17 at 6-7:30pm
Families of Kindergarteners are invited to come and discover what your students
need to learn and do to build reading skills. Theresa and Joan will model best
practices for instruction that will spark your children’s interest in reading. Every
family will receive a Scholastic bag with three books, a family activity/tip sheet

Stunning Science with Stephen Shier

Join us at the office the last Monday of each month for some spectacular
science demonstrations with science teacher Stephen Shier! All ages are

Ice Skating Activity
Wednesday, February 25 at 11am-12pm
Join us at the Treadwell Ice Rink for a 20-minute lesson divided based on ability,
40-minute open skate and dance under the disco ball! As a school group, we get
an excellent rate and can have up to 50 participants, so let’s make this a fun
