THE DRUM On what’s happening in and around Yarram No.50 Feb 2015 RAINFOREST RHYTHMS ARE BACK IN BALOOK! Swiftly becoming a great annual favourite, Rainforest Rhythms will be here again on the 15th of February, presenting a full day of entertainment, from 10 am until 6 pm, at the Tarra-Bulga Visitors Centre in the heart of Balook. Many local groups and soloists will again be performing, including the popular Sale Pipe Band, ‘Infirmary’ and duo David Graham and John Northmore, plus numerous other entertainers, who will be just waiting to give everyone a great day out. As in previous years there will be food and drink available for everyone, all at no cost and including a barbeque lunch – something not to be missed! So make a note in your diary, to be at Tarra Bulga National Park Visitors Centre, from 10:00am until 6:00pm on SUNDAY 15th FEBRUARY, you will enjoy a really great day out! There’s plenty of free parking spaces too, so all you need to bring along is a chair or blanket to sit on, (and some food if you don’t fancy barbecue). Need a bit more information – just ring Pam Pattison on 5196 6140 or 0417 393 303, she’ll be delighted to tell you all you need to know. Poppy Update… Thank you to all the ladies who have been knitting poppies for our servicemen and women. Special thanks to Catharina (pictured) who has singlehandedly made 140 poppies! Poppies are still needed to fulfill our goal of having the poppies mounted and ready in time for the Anzac Day Service. If you would like to help make poppies, we have free patterns of knitted and crocheted poppies for you. We can also provide free wool for you to use, And all completed poppies will be gratefully received. The next step in this project will be mounting the Poppies, which will then be displayed in the Regent Theatre. We’ll keep you posted on our progress. 2 ANY EXCUSE FOR A PARTY! Vanessa and Tim Bennett are excited to announce their participation in the 2015 Mystery Box Rally, a rally event from the organisers of the Cancer Council’s biggest private fundraiser Shitbox Rally. Starting in Sydney on 28th November 2015, we will be one of 75 teams of fundraisers who will embark on an adventure of a lifetime over five days. A light hearted approach to a serious cause, Mystery Box will take us along a mysterious route to destinations unknown…small outback towns, dusty tracks and surprise river crossings, all while raising much-needed funds for cancer research and prevention. Vanessa and Tim will be driving under the team name Zedness and along with the 150 other participants will receive the day’s route the morning they embark, camping overnight in often remote locations. What’s exciting is that we have no prior knowledge of the route, the destination or the vehicle that will take us there. We’re leaping before looking, and heading out of our comfort zones for a cause that is important to us both. Our fundraising target is $4,000, which goes towards Cancer Council research initiatives. To do this we have organised a number of differently themed community events which will run throughout the year under the general title “Any Excuse For A Party!”. All to be held at Yarram’s Iconic Regent Theatre. The first excuse will be a Chinese New Year’s Eve Party on Saturday 21st February. Manheim, Australia's leading car auction company, source 75 cars that teams will bid on at private auction the night prior to departure. It’s the first mystery to the journey as cars are unveiled one at a time without teams ever seeing or driving them beforehand. Teams will have spent months fundraising for the chance to be a part of the challenge with a $3,000 minimum charity donation needed to get involved. The more they've raised, the higher the chance they can acquire their dream mystery box at auction for their voyage, with all funds raised going towards vital Cancer Council research initiatives. To donate to ZEDNESS, visit our page at https://mysterybox2015sydney.everydayhero.com/au/zedness Since its inception in 2013, Mystery Box has raised a total of over $500,000. Brought to you by Box Rallies Founder James Freeman, the Mystery Box brings a whole new twist to the concept of mystery travel and having fun whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause.
