GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s Guide Version 1.0.1 February 5th, 2015 www.gymwatch.com !1 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Purpose of this document This document provides a quick start tutorial for everyone who wants to use the GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android app in combination with the separately available GYMWATCH® sensors to track fitness training data. This document is written specifically for version 1.0.1 of the GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android app. Requirements Currently the GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android app is only available for handsets that have Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above installed and run API Level 18 at least. In order to use the software correctly you need a GYMWATCH® sensor (separately available) to connect to or otherwise you cannot track movement. Please make sure that your device has built-in Bluetooth® and that your internet connection is available as the app needs to communicate with our server to progress your data. www.gymwatch.com !2 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Connecting When you start the app, you need to login with your account. You might have created one in the past, so you can use that to connect with the app. You cannot login with your Facebook account at the moment. If you do not have an account yet, you can easily create one directly on the signup screen. After you filled out the form you get a message on your device if the creation was successful or not. You should see the screen telling you that the login process is in work then. If you start the app for the first time you will see a screen that shows you the progress of the exercise catalog initializing. When all exercises are setup you will be forwarded automatically. After successfully logging in the app tells you that is is now searching for GYMWATCH® sensors. For this you need to turn Bluetooth® on on your device. In order to find sensors nearby you need to activate them by pressing the button on the sensor. After your phone has found sensors you can select one you want to connect to by checking the box right to its name. By hitting the „OK“ button your device starts to connect to the sensor. This will take a few seconds. The dialog will disappear and the sensor will glow light blue when the process is done. The number of sensors you can connect to is currently limited to 1. Your device will inform you when it is ready to start an exercise. www.gymwatch.com !3 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Updating the sensor firmware Your first connection to the sensor will fail. To use the app correctly you have to update the sensor’s firmware first. After disconnecting you’ll get to the update screen that guides you through the process. You’ll have to reboot your sensor by pressing and holding the sensor button for 10 seconds. It will turn off and go on and glow white again eventually. Tap the „Continue“ button on the screen then. Your device will ask you to pair with your sensor again, which you have to accept. After that you’ll see the update processing. When this is finished you’ll come to the next screen that informs you about the successful update. Your sensor will blink red several times as well and then shut itself down. You can then start it again and pair it with your device. It now has the newest firmware installed and you can use it for your training. www.gymwatch.com !4 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Starting a workout A workout is automatically started each time you start the app. However, no progresses are saved if there are no exercises, so you can take a look at your workout history or use other functions. To add an exercise to the current workout you have two possibilities: You can use the wheel icon on your device’s screen or you can press the sensor button twice. For your first exercise you need to specify where you placed your sensor as this will have impact on the exercise you will be doing. Note that placing your sensor on one body part does not mean that you will train that specific part. To see what sensor position is used for which body part you can swipe left where you can find information about that. After selecting the body part where your sensor is positioned you will see that a new exercise has been added to your workout. If you want to change the position of your sensor, simply start the exercise again. Note that this is only possible as long as you have not added a set to the exercise. To add a set to the current exercise, click the sensor button once. You will notice the sensor light as well as the symbol on your device’s screen turning yellow. This is the time when you need to go into starting position for your exercise. You have about three seconds to get there, but the app will only start counting repetitions when you hold still, so as long as you move it will stay yellow. After detecting a stationary state the light and the icon turn green which means that the sensor now will start to count repetitions. Now you exercise as you would usually do. The number of repetitions you do is displayed both in the wheel icon as well as in your set information. To finish a set, click the sensor button once again. www.gymwatch.com !5 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Additional information To get more than only the number of repetitions you did, you need to provide the app with more information. By long-clicking on the default name you can select the exercise you were doing. Note that only the exercises can be selected that match the sensor position you selected before. By long-clicking the the load icon you can select the load you used for that specific set. If you absolved more than ohne set, you can change the load simultaneously for all sets of that exercise by checking the checkbox. After providing the app with the exercise name and the load for the set, it will connect to our servers and calculate some metrics based on your training data. By swiping left for each set you can see additional exercise data. To finish a workout, simply click „Finish“. If you want to exit the app before your progress will be saved automatically. www.gymwatch.com !6 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide More functions By sliding in from the left edge of the screen or by clicking the menu icon in the top left corner you can access the menu. It sports some information about the version number of your app and your connected sensor as well as the battery status on the bottom of the screen. The „History“ screen holds your workout data. Here you can select one workout and see all your exercises and sets as well as the measured and calculated data. You cannot change the name or load of the exercises and sets, though. The „Sensor“ screen gives you information about the firmware version and the battery status of your connected sensor. You can turn off the sensor, too, by clicking the switch. The sensor will be turned off eventually if you close the app, too. If there is a new firmware version available for your sensor you will be able to upgrade it directly from that screen. The „About“ screen shows legal information about GYMWATCH GmbH. By clicking the question mark at the bottom you can access our help desk. www.gymwatch.com !7 GYMWATCH® Strength & Fitness for Android User’s guide Known issues • • • • When the app is interrupted by another app or process while showing a dialog or popup, it will eventually crash Current maximum number of connected sensors is 1 A workout can not be finished with no sensor connected Switching your system language between german and any other language causes the app to crash Changes 1.0.1 • • Changed the name to match the one in the Google Play Store Added the chapter about the sensor firmware update www.gymwatch.com !8
