Aldo Ancheta Executive Director in Training As we reflect on our goals for 2015, let us remember what is ultimately important – RELATIONSHIPS. Coincidentally, February sends a strong reminder that relationships are at the core of humanity. As we begin to fulfill our 2015 goals, let us be intentional about building and maintaining those important relationships in our lives. After all, that was the purpose behind our creation. Finally, as our extended family, we look forward to forging and maintaining wonderful relationships with each one of you. Food Drive Success wi/LED Sharyn and resident Alma Our first Community Food Bank was a success! We collected quite a bit of food from our resident family members! Thank you to all for your generous donations! Resident Volunteer Resident Alma Harbin with Lucia Cortes for her church for 58 years reading music! Recently her vision became poor and she had to give it up. She felt God impress her to try to play by ear again. She gave it a try and she said The Lord blessed her talent to play by ear far better than before. Shirley Raines Fills the Air with Beautiful Music February Snowman Resident Shirley Raines started her own music therapy ministry for the Lantern residents each day. As a young child, she had the gift to play the piano by ear. After taking piano lessons, she was taught to read music. Esther (and Chester) was born in Saylorsburg, PA and grew up with her other brother Bill and her sister Betty. Upon graduating from high school she went to work at a hosiery mill during WWII. In 1964, she started her new job as an admissions clerk at the Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, OH and eventually became the head of that department and stayed with that position for a number of years. During this time in her life, one would find her entrepreneurial skills expanding with knitting afghans and making cloth crafts to sell to supplement her income. She and her sister Betty also owned and operated two health food stores all while raising her three daughters and son on her own. Esther credits God for helping her raise her children and provide for their needs. She now has seven grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. This is one of her greatest blessings and accomplishments in her life. Esther enjoyed playing the trumpet, ice skating and swimming. She knitted Barbie clothes for her daughters’ Barbies too. Each summer she would take her children to “The Shore” to have some family time with them. Gordon Central H.S.
