Saltfleet Soccer Club Celebrating 50 Years of Soccer in 2015!
The Saltfleet Soccer Club, founded in 1965, is privileged to be celebrating 50 years in
the community this season!! Saltfleet Soccer Club could not be more proud of the
service in the community that the club has provided the youth of Fruitland, Winona,
Stoney Creek and East Hamilton.
In the spring of 1965 a small group of families (Schonewille and Vanderwerf) came
together to teach boys the game of soccer and play a few games now and then. The
first year, the field at Glover Road School was used to teach the boys to play. There
weren’t enough players to join the federation and the players ranged from 8 – 14
years of age!
The second year, the club established a 12-13 year old category and registered with
the Hamilton District. This also allowed for the 9 and 10 year-old boys to play and
form a team! Saltfleet Go-Ahead was born, and from that day forward, it became
one of the most decorated soccer clubs in all of Ontario. The Orange colour was
chosen and is recognized today as one of the most iconic teams in Ontario!
In 1976, a mere 11 years from it’s inception, Saltfleet Soccer Club produced the
regions only North American Championship Team. A group of 16 year-old boys put
the club on the North American map. A feat not duplicated again by any club in our
entire district! Those young men have gone on to achieve bigger and greater things
for soccer both in our community and throughout Ontario and Canada.
Today, Saltfleet Soccer Club has more than 2000 youth members ranging in ages
between 4 – 18 years. The club also offers teams for women and men. More than
100 teams play in recreational and competitive programs. A majority of the club’s
players are recreational and many generations of families have participated and
learned to love the game of soccer from this very club!
Now, Saltfleet Soccer Club invites former and current players, families, coaches, and
referees to attend the 50Th Anniversary Gala Dinner to celebrate and share
memories together!!





Date: Saturday, March 28th, 2015
Time: Reception at 5:30 and dinner to follow at 6:30 pm
Location: Liuna Gardens, Winona Road
Tickets : $100 per ticket (sold via Saltfleet Office)
The club is located at 565 Seaman Street in Stoney Creek – at Players Paradise

There are numerous sponsorship opportunities available for the 50th Anniversary
Dinner. The opportunities range from In-Kind offers to $750 for special initiatives

Shelley D’Angelo, as our current Club Treasurer and 50th Anniversary Chair for the

youth and children in mind. They are what we celebrate in 2015.”
