Director’s Corner:
February brings us into the second month of the third quarter of the
school year. In addition to the challenges found in our regular
academic program, students will be involved in special events
planned for them especially during the enrichment week.
This month, we celebrate Black History. With this theme come a lot of
projects, fun and learning. Every year, the students learn about many of the great African-Americans
and their achievements, inventions, and progress. This month is also Dental Health month so students
will learn about the importance of oral hygiene. We will also celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday,
February 13th with class potluck parties during their lunchtime. The students are encouraged to wear
free dress in Valentine’s Day colors.
We will be closed on Monday, February 16th in observation of President’s Day. Our enrichment week is
from Tuesday, February 17th to Friday, February 20th. The students have enrichment classes with
emphasis on past and present presidents. NO uniforms required this week. Attendance is optional.
Remember to fill out the sign-up form if you wish your child to attend this week. To avoid extra
charges, please submit your form on or before Monday, February 9th.
During this enrichment week, our fifth graders are going on a 5-day educational trip to Toyon Bay on
Catalina Island. They will participate in water activities such as kayaking and snorkeling. Day and night
programs include lessons on fish, shark, algae, marine mammals, creatures of the night, and squid
dissection. They will also experience a terrestrial lab and hike during astronomy night hike. The fifth
graders look forward to this exciting experience.
We wish you all a wonderful month!
