Students of the Month…………………….4! 2 Director’s Corner: February brings us into the second month of the third quarter of the school year. In addition to the challenges found in our regular academic program, students will be involved in special events planned for them especially during the enrichment week. This month, we celebrate Black History. With this theme come a lot of projects, fun and learning. Every year, the students learn about many of the great African-Americans and their achievements, inventions, and progress. This month is also Dental Health month so students will learn about the importance of oral hygiene. We will also celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 13th with class potluck parties during their lunchtime. The students are encouraged to wear free dress in Valentine’s Day colors. We will be closed on Monday, February 16th in observation of President’s Day. Our enrichment week is from Tuesday, February 17th to Friday, February 20th. The students have enrichment classes with emphasis on past and present presidents. NO uniforms required this week. Attendance is optional. Remember to fill out the sign-up form if you wish your child to attend this week. To avoid extra charges, please submit your form on or before Monday, February 9th. During this enrichment week, our fifth graders are going on a 5-day educational trip to Toyon Bay on Catalina Island. They will participate in water activities such as kayaking and snorkeling. Day and night programs include lessons on fish, shark, algae, marine mammals, creatures of the night, and squid dissection. They will also experience a terrestrial lab and hike during astronomy night hike. The fifth graders look forward to this exciting experience. We wish you all a wonderful month! Students have been doing such an amazing job! Keep up the great work. Here are our new updates for this month: PSC1/2- Students will learn/review problem solving skills, numbers and patterns with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Curious George Busy Day. PSD- Students will learn/review Science, Life Science, and Natural History with Dinosaur Train and Sid the Kid. Jr. K A-C- Students will focus on Science, Life Science and Reading with our friends Sid the Kid, Dinosaur Train, and Cat in the Hat. Kinder- Students will focus on keys V and M combined with previous keys learned. Students will continue to practice finger placement and strikes. 1st Grade- Students will continue to use the Computer Manual Book to create their lessons using a Word Document. We will also continue to focus on lessons 7 and 8. Students will change font colors. 2nd Grade- Students will continue to use the Computer Manual Book to create their lessons using a Word Document. We will continue to focus on lessons 10 and 11. Students will add Page Borders, Clipart, and different font colors to our documents. 3rd Grade- Students will work on their PowerPoint Project #2: Oceanography. Students will navigate the Internet for research. Students will learn how to copy and paste Internet pictures onto their project slides, and place animations. 5th Grade- Students will work on their PowerPoint Project #2: President. Students will navigate the Internet for research. Students will apply different themes/ Internet backgrounds, pictures, fonts, animations, and alignments to their projects. Thank you, Ms. Lopez Field Trip: Discovery Cube This month we’ll be visiting the Discovery Cube in Los Angeles. First, we will get involved in a Dino Jeopardy interactive game show where some lucky Page students will be contestants answering dinosaur trivia questions. Next, we’ll have 1 hour to explore all of the 1st floor exhibits, which cover environmental, park and recreational sciences. Lastly, we’ll watch a comical animated movie in 4D called The Lost World. Get ready to have a Jurassic time at the Discovery Cube! Field Trip t-shirts are required and space is limited so please don’t hesitate to sign up as soon as possible! All projects were creative. Our 100th day of school celebration was also a success. All of the students enjoyed the different activities and the petting zoo. This month, we look forward to our educational field trip to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. We are now halfway through the year; let’s continue working together.
