Happy February All! We are one more month closer to spring and I know everyone is looking forward to warmer days with a little sun! We have had a busy January with several activities at your Lodge. I want to thank Brad and Heidi Peyton for organizing the Bourbon Tasting that we held on January 24th. This was a great event held by Stillwright Distillery from Fairborn, OH. It was very interesting to hear the Stillwright story and taste the many samples on hand. We are now carrying their product at the Lodge if you care to taste and missed the event. One of the owners of Stillwrights, Brad Measel is also a new member of our Lodge. Our Cornhole tournament had a good turnout with $100 being split for first place by Ron McGrew and Joe Mack! Great throwing guys! Special thanks to all that helped put this event together and brought bags and boards. This month we will have our nomination and election of Officers for the upcoming year. We are always looking for members who wish to participate more deeply within the Lodge. If you desire more information or want to hold an office in your Lodge, please contact me. Our meetings this month will be on 2/5 and 2/19 at our normal time of 7 pm. We have had a tremendous amount of repair and maintenance cost on our building and infrastructure this past year. In March’s newsletter, I will list all that we have done to either repair or improve your Lodge. You will be surprised at the time, effort and cost that this involved. Many great members work behind the scenes regularly to make sure that our facilities are top notch! Chris Hatcher Lodge Exalted Ruler www.lebanonelks422.com Around the Lodge... Page 2 Board Meetings 2nd & 4th Mondays At 7 PM 2014-2015 Trustees Brad Peyton Board Chairman Heidi Peyton Trustee—One Year Board Secretary Jeff Dillon Trustee—Two Year Joe Mack Trustee—Three Year This ongoing feature is to keep members up to date on various issues related to our lodge facilities and our use of funds as trustees. As some may remember we had to replace the club room ice maker earlier this year as it had reached the end of its usefulness and was no longer serviceable. This month the large club room storage cooler quit working. Upon inspection it was determined that a new compressor was needed. In this case it was deemed serviceable so a new compressor was installed saving funds rather than replacing the entire unit. In both cases these units had between twenty to thirty years of lodge use. The lodge passed it’s biannual health department inspection of our kitchen facilities. Several members came in on the Sunday preceding the inspection to clean and empty out of date items from the refrigerator. We ask that all members utilizing the lodges kitchen treat it as their own. Please clean and store all items after they are used. That means placing cooking utensils back into the proper drawers and cabinets. If items are brought down from the second floor please return after usage. Too often items are being left on the counters, floors and in the card room. Please dispose of any leftovers and garbage properly. It is not the trustees responsibility to return items to storage or clean after members use the facilities. Last month the club room heaters required service after it was reported that they were not maintaining the set temperature. After they were serviced they returned to normal operation. We ask that members don’t adjust the thermostats above normally accepted settings. Being an older under insulated building heating and cooling is a major lodge expenditure. Last week the club room thermostat was set to 74 degrees. Your comfort is important but responsible usage will help keep our utility bills far more manageable. 2014-2015 Auxiliary Officers I would like to again extend thanks to Joe & Carolyn Mack for their willingness meet and get the service folks access to the lodge for the needed repairs. It’s been a busy month at the lodge starting with the National College Championship Football game. Despite being a Monday late evening game we had a dedicated turnout to watch The Ohio State Buckeyes win the first of hopefully many national titles. The few of us that remained by the game’s end celebrated with a fitting champagne toast! Thanks to Kenny Butterworth our Monday night volunteer bartender (and Ohio State Fan) for staying extra late and taking the victory photo... Page 3 www.lebanonelks422.com Page 4 February Events In January the lodge held a cornhole tournament. We had a good event turnout and a very competitive field. Congratulations to the first place tourney winners Ron McGrew & Joe Mack. The runners up were the team of Fred Travis & Greg Smith. Brad’s family founded and operates the company. They shared samples of their products and stories related to the start-up of the distillery. It was an interesting window in to what it takes to create the products and navigate all of the regulations associated with producing an alcoholic product. The lodge purchased their various offerings of bourbon, rum & flavored moonshine for sale in the clubroom. So if you were unable to attend the event you still have an opportunity to try their beverages. Last evening we held an outstanding Super Bowl Party. Thanks to everyone for providing a great selection of game time food & desserts! As you can see there are many varied activities happening at the lodge. We have several planned in February & March including the Steak Shoot, Valentine’s Dinner, Election & Installation of Officers, Founders Day & the Stag Event. Please check your e-mails and website for updates and details as new events & dinners are added. Your attendance in these events help to fund our ongoing operating expenses and charitable cause donations — thanks to all who work and attended these functions... Welcome the Lodges Newest Members… Joesph Zuber Greg Kaiser Brad Measel www.lebanonelks422.com In Our Thoughts and Prayers… Our sincere condolences to family and friends, on the passing of our fellow lodge member John Robert Kibbey. At the request of John and his family an Elk’s Memorial Service was held at the lodge on January 20th. Elks are never forgotten, never forsaken. Please let us know if there members who need our thoughts and prayers. Send your news to Brad Peyton: [email protected] A Letter of Thanks As the son of John Robert Kibbey I would like to offer “Thanks” to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lebanon Lodge #422 members, auxiliary, friends and family for a beautiful memorial service, held for Dad on Tuesday, January 20th. Thanks to Stine/Kilburn Funeral Home for providing the American Flag and other support for the service. The lodge officer’s tribute was sincere and truly touched my heart. Jan Kaufman, her helpers, including the auxiliary, provided an assortment of fine appetizers & desserts. Thanks also to Jan Kaufman, Stephanie Flannery & Brad Peyton for their help with the picture presentation of dad’s life. I will treasure them always. This all represented much planning and effort - “Thank You All”. Alice Deer provided my transportation to and from the airport – “Thank You” Alice for your friendship. Dad had a lengthy illness and many people helped to make his life easier. Among those are Ron McGrew, Mike Young and his neighbors Bill & Mary Miniard – Thanks to each of you for going the extra miles. The Elk’s were a second home to Dad and he made many memories and lifelong friendships. To all that donated to the memorial fund, I am not sure how we could have done this without your help. Now I understand the Elk’s motto: Elks Care - Elks Share.
