WELCOME TO HAIR MASSACURE 2015
Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta and Make-A-Wish® Southern Alberta are joining forces to bring Hair
Massacure back to Calgary! Pinking is on February 3, 2015 at MC College. Shaving takes place during the week of
February 16 with the grand finale at the Calgary Roughnecks game on February 21. Each participant who raises a
minimum of $100 in pledges will receive two complimentary tickets to the February 21 Calgary Roughnecks game.
ABOUT US
Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta provides a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick
children receiving medical attention in a Calgary hospital. Though the House has grown and changed since opening in
1985, the purpose remains the same—keeping families together in a compassionate and comfortable, home–like
atmosphere. Children heal faster when their families are with them.
Make-A-Wish® Southern Alberta grants wishes to children aged 3-17 with life-threatening medical conditions. In
granting a child’s special wish, we know that we are offering that child and their family hope and anticipation for the
future, strength to carry on through difficult times and the joy of a dream come true. A wish experience is frequently a
source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments and a positive force that helps them overcome
their obstacles. A wish is often more than a dream come true. It is a catalyst that rekindles their belief in themselves
and the promise of their future. Our vision is to grow wish granting so every eligible child has the opportunity to have
their wish fulfilled.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN HAIR MASSACURE ADVENTURE
Hair Massacure participants proudly wear the signature “Kali pink” between February 3 - 21 to raise awareness and
funds. All walks of life gravitate to the pink experience including professionals, sports figures, youth, and seniors.
Following the pink campaign, some brave participants trade in their pink locks for a shiny bald head and participate in
the shaving event. Proud participants are asked to collect pledges immediately to support our two charities. Don’t want
to colour and shave your hair...there are numerous ways to help make Hair Massacure a success.
1) Sell gold and pink paper Kali Bears at your workplace! A pink Kali Bear is $1, and the gold bear is $5. You can
proudly display all of the bears in your office or retail space, and even create a little friendly competition among
departments for sales. If inclined, your company can match the Kali Bear sales.
2) You can choose your own Hair Massacure adventure by cutting, pinking, shaving or donating your hair. Beards and
mustaches, chest, and leg hair are welcome. For more information or to register visit www.hairmassacure.com or
call Shonna or April.
3) Spread the word. Tell your friends, family, and coworkers about the event and get them involved.
For each participant, we can set up an online pledge page on our Hair Massacure website and actively promote the
participation of your organization on our twitter page and through other social media.
Let’s continue to support children affected by life-threatening illnesses and say...THIS IS HOW WE FIGHT. To confirm
your support or if you have any questions, please contact Shonna or April.

Hair Massacure History.
Hair Massacure was inspired in 2003 by young cancer survivor Kali MacDonald. Kali was diagnosed at age two with
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her three year journey of daily chemotherapy became the catalyst for the idea of a
head shave known as the St. Valentine’s Day Hair Massacure, founded by the McDonald family. In 2006, the event
evolved to include pink hair and the St. Valentine’s Hair Massacure shortened its name to what it is known as today “Hair Massacure”. Along with this new name we also introduced a new logo, our mascot, Kali Bear, and FRED (the
“pinked” family dog).
We need your help.
We are excited to bring Hair Massacure to Calgary again this year. Since its inception in 2003 in Edmonton, Hair
Massacure has raised over $8 million for northern Alberta charities! Hair Massacure is in its third year in Calgary,
gaining momentum by the day. Let’s continue to support children affected by life-threatening illnesses and say...
THIS IS HOW WE FIGHT!
