Beyond Eco-Industrialism:
Paving the way for a better tomorrow
Dr. Abdulrahman A. Hussain Jawahery
Conference Chairman
President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company
Board Member of National Oil & Gas Authority
Chairman’s Message
It’s that euphoric time once again! It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd Bahrain International Corporate Social
Responsibility Conference and Exhibition 2015. We are honoured to hold this significant event under the esteemed patronage of His
Excellency Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Energy, Kingdom of Bahrain
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR,) also referred to as Social Performance or Sustainable Responsible Business, is a built-in, selfregulatory mechanism whereby businesses ensure their active role in giving back to the societies they operate in. The goal of CSR is to
embrace responsibility for company actions and encourage a positive impact on the environment, consumers, employees, communities
and stakeholders. Many companies examine exactly how effective their branding is and how they are perceived by their customers and
the general public. All else being equal, companies that take an active role in promoting their corporate social responsibility programmes
are generally viewed more favourably than those that do not have highly visible programmes. Having goals and a vision for your company
that go beyond products and profits definitely provides a warmer image of business that consumers will be more eager to engage with.
While many still revel in the performance of the 1st Bahrain International Corporate Social Responsibility Conference and Exhibition
held during March, 2013, the second edition is also brimming with possibilities. This event will be well attended by regional
and international organizations across the globe. This makes it a unique platform for government authorities, the private
sector, companies, agencies, experts and the general public to meet and discuss the latest CSR trends worldwide.
It also provides an opportunity for participants to better reflect on their social corporate responsibility
commitment in serving the community. This exhibition is the ideal platform for local, regional and
international organizations to showcase their completed or ongoing CSR projects. For organisations
that choose to make use of this prospect, the possibilities are endless.
With your participation, I am confident that we will be a step closer toward achieving
the event’s theme: “Beyond Eco-Industrialism: Paving the way for a better
tomorrow.”
I look forward to meeting you at this international gathering.
Thank you.

that project, David has become increasingly involved in fostering a culture of sustainability across
all engineering disciplines, and the built environment.

Workshop 1
Fundamentals of Csr
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has steadily developed into a major prerequisite of corporate strategy development in turn, permeates and this through in all aspects of management
practices, business operations and product development. CSR initiatives help in developing sustainable business practices, opening up new opportunities, promoting customer loyalty
and enhancing stakeholder relationships. In the recent past, CSR has now emerged as a key strategic priority for organizations – and this is leading them to find ways to realize the full
potential that CSR offers as a strategic management tool. The Arabia CSR Network is organizing this training to help the participants understand how CSR can contribute strategically to an
organization’s comprehensive performance and learn more about opportunities and benefits that CSR presents by scoping out what corporate responsibility means for their company. If your
organization is motivated to adopt CSR principles or build on CSR practices such as enhanced reputation, trust, lower risks, improved organizational efficiencies and employee motivation – then
