Why are we promoting the UTC as an educational option to young people in West
Midlands considering a career in construction – Why would students choose this
option?
“If you live in the West Midlands and are thinking about a career in Construction,
the WMCUTC is the best route you can possibly take to high quality practical
learning, employment or higher education - real education for real jobs!”
Because the WMCUTC:

brings together the leaders in construction, the industry training board (CITB), the University of
Wolverhampton and its School of the Built Environment and a wide range of the UK’s leading major
construction companies – all who are passionate to provide a better opportunity for 14 – 19 year olds and
deliver unrivalled routes into the construction industry

specialises in construction and the application of IT in the building industry alongside conventional GCSE
studies with a strong emphasis on employability, enterprise, teamwork and personal development

provides students with:
o a unique opportunity to access mentoring from and work closely with prospective major employers
throughout their full-time technical, practical and vocational training
o unrivalled progression routes into employment, apprenticeships and higher education
o access to the University of Wolverhampton’s School of the Built Environment
o Choice of specialisms for technical and professional career routes
o the inspiring and enterprising opportunity to actually be involved in the “building” of the WMCUTC as
the first students of the facility
