New Members Welcomed So, what do you think of YOUR mother-in-law? Come on, Father, is this a trick question? In comedy and in real life, mothers-in-law usually receive a bum rap. Here’s what I’m talking about. To add insult to injury, as I was writing this week’s Pulse, the church’s pest control company actually called to make an appointment for their quarterly visit. They’re coming on Tuesday. Is this a coincidence or what? In today’s Gospel, Mark speaks about Jesus healing Peter’s mother-in-law. She had a fever and was quite ill. Because there were few effective medicines existing in those days, such conditions were usually fatal, a virtual death sentence. When hearing of her illness, Jesus and Peter; his brother, Andrew along with James and John rush to her side. Jesus is aware of the seriousness of the situation. He enters the room, comforts her, and grasps her hand. She immediately stands, freed from illness, and tends to their needs; cooking dinner and waiting on Jesus and His companions. When her friends and neighbors hear of this, the message quickly circulates throughout the town. Jesus, the Rabbi from Nazareth, had performed a great miracle; healing Peter’s mother-in-law. One by one, the sick and the suffering were brought to Jesus. He touched them, cured them and made them whole. Remember, my friends, the great miracles of Jesus in your life. The times you and your loved ones cried out in prayer. In those moments, He touched you, hoisting you upon His shoulders; comforting you in times of trouble, sickness, grief and distress. The Rabbi from Nazareth is near at hand. Reach out to Him. Yes, He is quite near! Your grateful Pastor, Remember in prayer the brave men & women, who serve our country, especially in the Middle East.
