opportunities for questions. The goal of the program is to
increase the first collection, while maintaining the same
level of giving for the second collection. Let us pray for
the success of this program. Thank you.

Autumn Angel Bazaar
October 25 & 26
We Can Use Your Help!
As we prepare for this year’s Autumn Angel Bazaar, YOU are
invited to take part in assisting with this fun event. You do not
have to be a member of St. Mary’s Society of Women to help. The
veteran Bazaar workers will assist in mentoring our new helpers.
Eleanor Keating has already volunteered as a mentor for the
Penny Social Table. Come join the fun and make new
friends. You will NOT be responsible for taking charge of any
table this year. However, in time you will have the skills to do so.
New faces are warmly welcomed. Please, fill out the form below
and either give it to Father Doug or contact Paula Reyes, the
Bazaar Chairperson, at 828-6227 (home) or 286-9472 (cell). If you
would like to donate items for the Penny Social Table and/or the
Basket table, please deposit your items in the church hall/rectory.
The Pastor’s Pulse
Dear parishioners & friends:
Columbus Day weekend is upon us.
We celebrate an explorer from
Genoa, who became famous for
discovering, not a shorter route to
the Indies, which he had originally
set out to do, but believing he had,
when arriving in the New World,
named
the
locals
Indians.
Columbus would agree:
Mama,
mia, che comedia! What a comedy!

Mistakes can be quite valuable. History has proven that
many great discoveries were and continue to be achieved
simply by making a mistake. Even in the midst of error,
there can be triumph. In such a case, the sarcasm and
scorn of others, can quickly transform into the universal
acceptance of something new and wonderful.
Unfortunately, however, most of us hate to admit that we
have made a mistake, even when it is obvious to the
casual observer. Remember your mother’s advice about
such things: Own up to your mistakes, kiddo. When
ignoring mother’s advice, we usually become defensive
and in utter frustration concede: Well, haven’t YOU ever
made a mistake, little miss smarty pants?
Making a mistake does not translate into committing sin.
There is a wide chasm separating mistakes from sins.
Jesus tells us that when we sin, our relationship with Him
and others is fractured and, in some instances, seriously
so. By turning to Jesus with contrition and sorrow;
relationships can be restored, healed and renewed.
Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a liberating
moment, freeing us from our old self, remolding us
through confession, penance and absolution.
Our
relationships are made whole once more, the gift of God’s
forgiveness, freely given.
Sure, we may hate to make mistakes, but sinning is far
worse. Nothing good ever comes from sin. But, who
knows? Unlike sin, a mistake may very well turn out to be
something new and wonderful. Mama mia, che comedia!
What a comedy! But, who will have the last laugh?
Your grateful Pastor,
Father Doug
