“Entrusted with Responsibility”
Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual
Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin.
As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the
Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. He
has given you all that you have. With these gifts, you are
entrusted with responsibility. Your gifts to our parish, to the
Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout the world
should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God
gives you. Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes
participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our
Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our
combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a
significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese.

May 17, 2015 at Holy Name
Cathedral by Archbishop Blase
Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. This
is a public announcement of the
upcoming ordination and fulfills the canonical
requirement. Catholics are obliged to reveal any
impediments or circumstances that would prevent
Lawrence Oskielunas from receiving Sacred Orders
and should contact the pastor or the archbishop with
such information as soon as possible if there is a
serious question about the candidate’s suitability for
ordained ministry.
THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
LEMONT TRI-PARISH
LENTEN MISSION
FR. TOM McCARTHY
“The Sacraments,
the Treasures of Our Faith”
MONDAY, TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY
MARCH 2, 3 AND 4 AT 7:30PM
SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS PARISH
Fr. Tom is Chaplain and the Chairman of the Board of Directors
of St. Rita of Cascia High School where he has served since 1994,
first as teacher and later as Principal and President.
Monday Night:
The Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism, Eucharist & Confirmation
Where do you feel comfortable and welcome? Why did Jesus like to
party so much? Do you know who the lost member of the Trinity is?
What do bowling shoes have to do with Confirmation?
These questions and many more will be pondered and hopefully
answered on Monday night. Will you be there to find the answers or
will you miss out and wonder forever?
Tuesday Night:
The Sacraments of Healing-Anointing of the Sick & Reconciliation
Why is Hollywood boycotting Vatican II? What is the difference
between the 5th and 6th Commandments? Find out why the Lemont
Police Department will be flooded with calls on Tuesday night.

misunderstanding. Many Catholics presume it
refers to the anointing of the sick, yet there is
nothing “last” about it. Clearly, the Church
desires anointing to be celebrated fairly early
on in the crisis of illness, and not as a last
measure. The Rites for the Dying stand apart
in the Church’s plan, and include two
principal rites. The first is viaticum, Latin for
“food for the journey,” the reception of Holy
Communion by a dying person. Even very
active and aware Catholics often do not
realize that this “last rite” does not require a
priest’s presence, but can be conducted by a
deacon or minister of Holy Communion.
The second “last rite” in the pastoral plan
is a prayer called “Commendation of the
Dying.” Similarly, this does not require the
presence of a priest, but can be led by any
minister or family member. Too often, we
have focused on what only a priest can do,
namely anoint, and have forgotten the fullness
of liturgical care that the Church desires for its
dying faithful. The “last rites” are
completely available to us even when a
priest is not.
