From Fr. Mark’s Desk,
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time: “All were amazed and asked one another, ‘what
is this?’ A new teaching with authority.
In the letter to the Hebrews, there is a reference to the Law being a shadow of all
the good God has in store for his people. The fulfillment of the law is the goodness
that is derived or received from it. Being firmly grounded in the law, (because Jesus is
the Law), Jesus is able to overcome unclean spirits, among other things. The authority Jesus demonstrates is not the mere law (a shadow) but the manifestation of the
law (love and mercy). This ‘teaching’ is amazing to some and a threat to others.
Amazing to those who look to the promise of God in new and varied ways each day; a
threat to those who believe God only works through their understanding of the law.
What unclean spirit do we wish to surrender to God, so that it may be convulsed from
us? Are we amazed by the forgiveness, or threatened by the opportunity??
Fr. Joe Cook has returned to the rectory and parish, but will not be able to say
Mass for a while until his shoulder heals. Please keep him in your prayers.
Thank you to all who made our Catholic Schools celebration a success last Sunday.
Thank you to the choir from Brother Rice High School for attending our 10:30 Mass
last Sunday...It made our celebration all the more special.
This weekend, all Eucharistic Ministers, Ministers of Care and Lectors will receive a
ministry blessing. Thank you for your service to God’s church.
The second collection this weekend is for the PADS shelter. Thank you for your
generosity.
Next weekend, all parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago will be asked to offer a
‘commitment weekend’ for the Annual Catholic Appeal. The money from this appeal
assists many of the agencies and ministries of the Archdiocese. Your support of this
appeal is crucial to the financial health of the Archdiocese. Thank you for your support.
Have a great week!

LOVE IN OUR WORKS
In the Gospel today we read that because
Jesus spoke with authority his reputation
spread throughout the surrounding region of
Galilee. As his disciples, we can also speak
with authority when we put our faith into
action by helping the poor and suffering.
We have several [urgent] openings that need to be filled:
Friday 12 Noon, 2PM; Saturday 4AM, 10AM, 2PM,
7PM, 8PM; Sunday 3AM, 4PM, 5PM, 9PM,
10:00PM; Monday 7AM; Tuesday 9AM, 11AM,
6PM; Wednesday 12 Noon, 5PM, 7PM; Thursday
4AM, 10AM, 1PM, 4PM, 6PM, 7PM, 9PM and Sunday through Saturday 2AM . Please call the rectory if
you can make the commitment.
Reminder: this is a commitment until you no longer
are able to be there. Hopefully, you will find it so rewarding you will commit to it for years.
Have you considered answering the call to serve the
poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

The annual ‘Souper Bowl’ drive

Unlike in the past when donations
were accepted at the doors of the

hungry and homeless. A number of St. Linus parishioners help prepare and serve meals monthly from
September to April at Pilgrim Faith Church in Oak

Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and
men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this
Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their
pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by
calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl
of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all
things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

2015 Annual Catholic Appeal
“Entrusted with Responsibility”
Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time
special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments.
As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal,
please reflect on God’s gifts to you. He has given you all that you have. With these
gifts, you are entrusted with responsibility. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the
Church throughout the world should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you.
Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable
our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to
God, they fund a significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese.
If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass
NEXT weekend. For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will
conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses NEXT weekend.
