Jonni Joyce began her career as a canine handler in the 1980’s with
the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina.
She worked a dual purpose patrol dog, named “Breston”, before
opening her own professional working dog training facility.

Jonni has been a certified instructor with N.C. Criminal Justice
Training and Standards Commission, possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from
Appalachian State University and was awarded an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the state in 1993. Jonni has been ruled an expert witness
in the State of North
Carolina in the training and handling of
working dogs. Jonni has trained in 41 states. She helped develop
the cadaver dog standards for the National Association for Search
and Rescue and co-authored the Civilian Search and Rescue Standard for the International Police Work Dog Association.
Chris Weeks has been handling and training working dogs since 1992.
A native of New Hampshire Chris joined the United States Marine Corps
and became a military police k9 handler. After graduating from Lackland
AFB in Texas from the DOD dog training center. Chris spent the next
five years handling
numerous patrol, explosives, and narcotics dogs
for the Marines. His last two years at Camp Lejeune NC were spent as
the head trainer for a fourteen dog unit.
Following the Marines, while working for the the Raleigh Police Department, he worked for a large vendor training and selling working dogs to
agencies all over the country. Chris was also a handler for the Raleigh K9
Unit, assigned to two dogs, an
explosives detection dog and a patrol /
narcotics dog.
In 2000 Chris began getting involved in the search and rescue field. By
2002 he was instructing at seminars throughout the country. He specializes in scent specific trailing and passive alert scent detection. As a full time
police k9 handler and trainer Chris feels lucky to have experienced the
dedication and professionalism of the volunteer SAR dog community.
Chris is currently a handler and the head trainer for a police department
in New Hampshire.

In 2000, Jonni was recruited to the RDU International Airport
Police Department to organize and develop the explosive detection
canine program at that airport in Raleigh, North Carolina. Assigned to Special Operations as a detective, Jonni served as a liaison
between federal authorities and local police in the development of
explosive incidents
protocol, utilization of canines, and dignitary
protection. Jonni and her explosive dog, Jesse, were called upon to
assist many US Military missions during dignitary protection
services. K9 Jesse was profiled in the book “DOG HEROES” by
Jen Bidner and died of a massive seizure.
Jonni has taught both at the national and international levels for
organizations. After serving 25 years as a law enforcement officer,
she is working on her Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, and plans
to continue her education in a doctoral program after completing
her Masters.
