Pastor’s Perspective
Minister of Education, Youth & Children’s Ministry
- Rob Paul -
- Newlie Long –
Most of us are familiar with Samaritan’s Purse. We are
familiar with Franklin Graham. We have put shoeboxes
together for Operation Christmas Child. Over the course of
the next year, we will have the opportunity to know
Samaritan’s Purse in a whole new way.
Early last Fall we were contacted by Samaritan’s Purse as a
potential partner-church for their one-year commitment to
help in tornado rebuild in Winston County. After several
meetings, much planning and a whole lot of prayer,
Samaritan’s Purse will begin rolling into Louisville and First
Baptist Church in the next few weeks.
Here’s what the partnership means for First Baptist:
•
•
We have an opportunity work with a respected worldwide
ministry and some amazing volunteers over the next year.
- We will provide office space in the Adult VII
Sunday School Department for the Samaritan’s Purse
full-time staff.
- We will provide sleeping and eating space in the
Crossing for approximately 20 construction
volunteers each week.
We also have an opportunity to minister to the employees,
the volunteers and the homeowners in our community who
will be helped.
- Many of the employees and volunteers will
participate in our weekly ministries.
- We will build relationships with families in our
community and follow-up with helping families
connect with a local church.
Let me encourage you to pray for this partnership. Once
Samaritan’s Purse is set up, you will also have opportunities
to get involved.
Thank you for your support and participation in our Acts 1:8
Strategy to make Jesus known from the red hills of
Mississippi to the ends of the earth!

Staying Fed
“How sweet are your
words to my taste,
sweeter than
honey to my
mouth!”
(Psalm 119:103,
NRSV).
Recently I was confronted
with this question: If you fed
yourself with food the way
you feed yourself with God’s
way, would you still be alive?
It gave me pause.
Do I eat enough spiritually? feast regularly enough on
Scripture to keep up my
energy and the health of my
soul? Do I eat nutritiously? take in a balanced meal of law
and gospel, comfort and
commandments, prophecy and
promise?
Do I pass up
spiritual junk food? - set
aside empty calories that lead
to disease, in order to hunger
for what truly gives life? Do I
drink enough Living Water to
avoid faith dehydration? And
once in a while, do I splurge
on dessert? - savor the
sweetness and joy of
belonging at God’s table?
What abundance God sets
before us. May we never skip
a “meal”!
