Nadia Williamson, 2015 Chair Regina & District Chamber of Commerce W ow! What an amazing evening. The 2015 Chair’s Inauguration was truly a spectacular event and I hope everyone had as fine a time as I did. I would like to personally acknowledge a few individuals but thank you very much from the bottom of my heart to anyone who helped out during the Gala. The Regina Chamber’s Events Manager, Jeanette Tonita, always does an exceptional job and this gala was no different. Every piece of this production was carefully managed The individual whose melodic notes seamed the evening’s pauses with rich and vibrant guitar music was Regina born musician Benjamin Knorr. Ben graduated from Campbell Collegiate (my Alma Mater) last June and is heralded as one of the greatest musicians to graduate from Campbell’s music program. With a newly launch Small Business Loans Association program administrated by the Regina Chamber’s Kali Bourhis and chaired by myself, we at the Chamber look to continue to position ourselves as the premiere business organization in Regina and a fount of businesses services that truly benefit our Last year, I was very honoured when the members. Campbell Collegiate Business Club chose me as their 2014 distinguished business alumni. Jordan McFarlen and Carissa Holinaty, the teachers who facilitate this program, have Your's Truly, done an exceptional job in coaching students towards achieving greatness in the field of business. In Jordan's words, "Students are encouraged to CREATE something meaningful in each course. Lastly, the program is always attempting to COLLABORATE within the school and with the outside business community to better enhance learning opportunities,” (Create, Communicate, and Collaborate is their motto). Most group benefit plans are experience rated, this means that the premiums your company pays are directly based on the claims made by you and your employees . If you experience higher than usual claims, your premiums go up ; and the cost increase often stays with your group for a l ong time. Darcy Stasuik Advisor Ph. 306-564-6323 Ext. 689 [email protected] In a pooled plan, like the CHAMBERS GROUP PLAN, your premiums are based on the average claims amongst ALL businesses participating in the program across Canada . The result is rate stability and coverage you can count on, regardless of unforeseen circumstances that may arise for you or your staff. For nearly a decade, the CHAMBERS GROUP PLAN has had a continuous track record of stable rates and unbeatable coverage; let us show you how the CHAMBERS GROUP PLAN can work for you! The Hill JDC West team also came first in participation for its high calibre of sporting behaviour and positive character throughout the event. The JDC West competition also includes charity activities conducted by the students. The Hill students logged more hours of volunteer work for their local community than any other school, as well as collected the most donations for their designated local charity, Hopes Home. Their generous efforts earned the Hill School JDC West team the awards for Most Volunteer Hours and Most Monetary Donations competition. During the same weekend The Paul J. Hill School was elevating its profile Internationally out east at the final round of the Queen’s Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) in Kingston, Ontario. Thirty-one business schools from around the world entered 145 teams to compete in eight categories. Andrew Gaudes, PhD Dean T he Paul J. Hill School of Business continues to build upon its national and international profile through case competitions across Canada. In Victoria BC during the weekend of January 16, the Hill School ranked high among the twelve premier business schools in Western Canada with a third place finish as "School of the Year" at JDC West 2015. The Hill team also placed third as "Academic School of the Year” based on academic performance through the weekend. The Asper School at University of Manitoba placed first in both categories, followed by the University of Alberta. In addition, the Paul J. Hill School of Business placed in three out of eleven academic competitions: 1st place: Business Strategy – Jon Maierhoffer, Suzanne Barber, Victoria Johnson (Bruce Anderson, coach) 1st place: Debate – Aaron Fritzler, Ahsan Amjad, Eric Holloway, Gulraiz Tariq (Lisa Watson, coach) 2nd place: Finance – April Pyne, Levi Lawrence, Brock Forbes (Youngsoo Kim, Arturo Rubalcava, Helen Huang, Darryl Yasinowski, Joe Zhang, Coaches) 2015 ICBC Team. This is the third time in four years that the Hill school has placed in the top six in the preliminary round. Two of the Hill teams that advanced to the final round placed: 1st place: Marketing – Brett Kitchen, Tiffany Lougheed (Tatiana Levit, Coach) 3rd place: Debate – Kevin Chow, Robert Vancise (Lisa Watson, Coach) These finishes at JDC West and ICBC are incredible feats to attain year over year. Students are presented with business case situations where they must prepare solutions under pressure of time and present to a jury of academic and professional experts in specialized areas. The competition is intense, and the adjudication is ruthless. Time and time again, the Hill students enter into these com- petitions and leave with the judges’ jaws dropped and humble expressions of a job well done. This consistency comes from a school comprised of staff and faculty dedicated to the success of their students and a program rich in experiential learning. Two faculty members in particular who shepherd the teams each year are Lisa Watson (JDC West) and Sean Tucker (ICBC). Their tireless effort continues to be an inspiration to our students, staff, and faculty at the Hill School of Business. The Regina community can take great pride in knowing they have a local business school with a growing national and international presence. It’s a school with students who value excellent business intelligence, alongside humility, and an overwhelming commitment to giving back to the community through voluntarism and charity. It’s a school that reflects all the positive elements of the community within which it resides. Working Together Connecting job seekers with a disability to employers Are you looking to hire?
