Common points for differential diagnosis in this area will be discussed and skills leading to clinical reasoning competency will be a focus. About the Hip & Groin Workshops Leanne Rath and Andrew Wallis have structured a program of learning to develop clinical competency in the area of diagnosis and management of hip and groin pain in sport. Combining their rich and diverse clinical and lecturing experience, they have integrated paradigms of injury management in an effort to facilitate clinicians in their development of a more complete perspective for hip and groin case management. They are passionate about the role Sports Physiotherapists play in the diagnosis and management of conditions in this often complex area and are committed to professional development to this end. The Level One course will cover all the basic components of clinical enquiry that are relevant for hip and groin pathology, including subjective questioning, clinical testing and functional assessment. Considerations for differential diagnosis will be made and a pathway created for a clinical reasoning process that leads to the design of an appropriate, individualized management plan. In addition, a radiology lecture and practical component is included to highlight the clinical importance of such input and to up-skill participants in reading signs and taking radiological measurements. Specific presentation of hip pathology pertaining to impingement and instability will be conducted. This will include in depth discussion regarding the pathomechanics and pathobiology behind labral, chondral and rim lesions. Groin dysfunction will be discussed with regard to eight common presentations of pain. The evidence to support each category will be provided and the pathology and subsequent management of each category explained. This course is designed to be a blend of evidence based and clinical experience. There is a large practical component to allow participants to become familiar with assessment and treatment options and most importantly be able to immediately apply the principles they have learned.
