It’s All About Business!
(Article Courtesy of the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education)
There is a truly one-of-a-kind program that is marking its 37th anniversary of teaching Pennsylvania high school students
(juniors and seniors) to both understand and celebrate why free enterprise is vital to the American way of life. Pennsylvania
Free Enterprise Week (PFEW), internationally-acclaimed for its excellence, will host more than 2,200 students this coming
summer in its exciting, seven-day journey into the world of business. Participants will act the parts of senior management
in modern-day companies that will face the same challenges that all American firms do, particularly those in Pennsylvania.
Each summer, PFEW holds five, one-week individual sessions in July and August. The focus of the week is to group the
participants (strangers at first) into “management teams” of senior executives who have inherited imaginary “companies.”
These teams, under the guiding hands of “executives-on-loan,” called Company Advisors, operate their firms for a
computer-simulated, three-year period of time. Each day’s activities include presentations from world-class business people
from a list that reads like “Who’s Who in Pennsylvania.” The students hear about business and finance, the role and
relationship of business and government, taxation, business ethics, labor relations, and much, much more.
With our economy still recovering from one of the longest recessions in our history, teaching young people to understand
and cherish our private enterprise system has never been more important. The Chamber is proud to support PFEW to
give our local students this eye-opening experience. We encourage our local companies and civic organizations to provide
A PFEW marketing team takes a “timeout” sponsorships for our students and, if possible, volunteers for the sessions. (PFEW is completely a product of the private
from working on their marketing/advertising sector.) Every student attends PFEW on a fully tax-deductible, $575 scholarship (the actual value of the scholarship
exceeds $1,500) which is provided by a local firm. Each student wears the name of their sponsor throughout the week and

organization through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program through the Department of Community and Economic Development.

attendance, as well as program applications, can also be found on the website. Questions can be directed to Ms. Amber Goss, Schools Assistant for PFEW, by calling

Sabun recently moved to Lebanon with his wife, and opened Honeybun
Donuts in December of 2014.
Sabun and Nika
“My family’s here,” Sabun explained when asked why he decided to move
from Alabama. “We thought it would be good to open a shop by the gas
station and that it would be a good location.”
Even though the Lebanon community is new to Sabun and Nika, the donut business is not; they’re both seasoned
pros when it comes to baking and selling the delectable goodies. Sabun helped
to run and manage his uncle’s chain of USA Donut shops in Alabama before
moving to Lebanon and opening Honeybun, bringing his traditional, family
recipes as well as some new creations all his own.
One new baked creation that Sabun has introduced to the area is called
a kolache. A kolache is a Southern staple comprised of sausage and cheese
wrapped in dough and baked in the oven. Kolaches, as well as croissants and
apple fritters, are Honeybun’s best-selling products. Burritos and biscuits as well
as traditional donuts are also on the extensive menu.
However, that’s not all that Sabun has up his sleeve. Looking ahead into 2015, Honeybun Donuts is looking to
make some additions to its menu and facility alike. The small shop features a few tables and chairs for customers
to relax and take a breather. Sabun plans on hanging up a TV to entice customers to sit and eat-in, as well as
installing a bar at the front windows. Sabun also has his eye on properties on 422, in Harrisburg, and in Reading
to possibly open a second location.
As far as the menu, Honeybun is looking to add Cambodian BBQ on a stick to the lineup in 2015. They also
would like to add donut ice cream, which consists of a jelly donut cut in half with a scoop of ice cream placed in
the middle. Another of Sabun’s ideas is to top a donut with frozen whipped topping.
In order to implement these new menu ideas, Sabun said he has to see more people coming into the shop. Once
business picks up, Sabun said that he can start adding to the menu.
“I don’t want to have the same thing every day,” Sabun said. “I want everyone to give us a shot. Donuts can get
sold anywhere, but only we can give Lebanon the good stuff that they never had before.”
Honeybun Donuts also takes larger orders for parties and meetings, and
has fundraising opportunities available for schools, churches, and other
organizations. The shop is open 5 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and
7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, please call them at 717-4540111.

Call for Volunteer Ambassadors!
The Chamber is looking for member volunteers for the Ambassadors Committee. Chamber ambassadors serve as
mentors to new member businesses and organizations and help navigate all of the benefits and opportunities of
Chamber membership. Through these contacts, ambassadors have an opportunity to expand professional networks
and make new business contacts. Committee meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:45 a.m. in
the Chamber offices. If you would like more information about the Ambassadors Committee, please contact Bethany
Houser at [email protected]. Thank you!

Lighten Your Load!
Karen Groh of IA Design leads the roundtable discussion.
The theme for the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce’s December Small Business Roundtable was “Lighten Your Load.” Held towards the end of December,
the informal roundtable took place at the Chamber office. This Small Business Roundtable open discussion featured a potluck lunch and was designed to help
attendees come up with strategies and practices for managing time while juggling family, business, and finances.
The Chamber’s free, monthly Small Business Roundtable sessions are designed to provide small business owners and home-based business entrepreneurs with
information exchange and networking opportunities, as well as educational workshops aimed at meeting the small business and home-based business owners’ needs.
While the sessions are intended for members of the Lebanon Valley Chamber, Chamber non-members may attend one roundtable meeting as a guest to learn more
about the roundtable program and the Chamber.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Chamber’s Small Business Roundtable can contact Peggy Kreiser, Director of Community Programs & Partnerships,
by phone at 717-273-3727 or by email at [email protected].

“Banks today seem more concerned about the success of their business.
ENB genuinely cares about mine.”
C.J. Wagner, Inc. was with the same local bank for many years. Things slowly changed when it
was bought by another bank. And then another. Owner Ken Wagner started seeing fees on his
monthly statements that weren’t there before. Over time, they increased in size and number.
He asked if anything could be done to lower or avoid them and didn’t like the bank’s response.
Ken went to ENB for a comparison. He couldn’t believe the monthly
savings they could provide.
He switched to ENB and started experiencing what he once loved about his bank. “ENB just fits
me and our business better. They have similar values, apply common sense to our relationship,
and really care. With our old bank, it seemed the people I dealt with were not empowered to
make decisions in order to meet my unique needs. That’s not the case at ENB. They’re the real
deal, and my son and I like that a lot.” So much that Ken is doing more banking and financial
planning with ENB today.

The Chamber’s MEGA Networking Luncheon is a cross
between business networking and speed dating. You’ll have
the opportunity to sit at a table with approximately nine
other non-competing business representatives and present
them with a 90-second “commercial” about your business or
organization. Each table will have a “timer” and after the
group completes its 15 minutes of “commercials,” the bell
will sound and you’ll move on to your next table and meet
new business representatives. After that, you’ll have one
more rotation to complete - making a total of approximately 27 new contacts in under one hour! After the “speed dating” session, you will be able to have lunch with your new
connections. Make sure you bring along plenty of business
cards, brochures and/or samples!

60 Ways to Grow Your List
Presented By: Terri Cole of Chickadee Marketing
Customer Engagement & Loyalty
Presented By: Lisa L. Heintzelman, M.Ed.
Part 1: Join us for a "60 Ways to Grow Your List" workshop - you'll leave with ideas and strategies to capture
new contacts, grow your list and take action to help
move your business forward. Having an interested and
qualified list of contacts is vital to every business. Continuing to grow that list is just as important. In this workshop we will show you 60 easy ways to grow your contact list today!
We will cover: • Why someone should join your contact
list and what’s in it for them • How to ask people to join
your list "face-to-face" • How to use social media to
grow your list • How to grow your list on your website or
blog • How to use print material to get people to sign
up • How to use events to help grow your list • How to
use incentives and giveaways to grow your list.
Plus, you'll have a chance to network with other
attendees and grow your contact list during the workshop!
Part 2: We all hear that we “need” to be sending newsletters and posting on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Before we
decide WHAT we are going to write and post, we first
need to decide WHY we want to engage through newsletters and social media and HOW it will be an effective
and efficient part of our marketing strategy to drive the
results and outcomes we desire.
What value does your product or service bring customers and clients? How are you satisfying their needs, solving their problems, increasing their productivity and revenue? How are you creating a WIN WIN and addressing
your customers’ and clients’ WIIFM (“What’s In It For
Me?”)?
We will explore strategies to share value and create urgency while engaging with your customers and clients
through Educational Marketing. Through hands-on activities, participants will develop ideas and create action
steps to immediately embed value within their everyday
marketing.
