Sexagesima Sunday - Tridentine
The Cerenity Senior Care at 512
Humboldt Ave. (across from St.
Matthews) in St. Paul, is looking for
any groups (youth, teen or adult) that
are interested in interacting with their
nursing home or assisted living
facility. The groups could interact
with residents by putting puzzles
together, reading stories, playing
games, or doing arts and crafts with
them. There are many one-time
opportunities to escort residents to
events. Help the elderly to feel
connected to the outside world by
having
more
community
involvement.
For more information, please call
651-227-8091.
PALM BRANCH BOXES
For those who would like to drop
off blessed palm branches from past
years to be burned and used for
blessed ashes, we have provided
boxes labeled for this at both
churches. Please do not drop off old
palm branches after Sunday,
February 15th, once the boxes have
been removed.

REFLECTIONS
I KNOW MY REDEEMER LIVES!
he first lesson of the readings of this Sunday is taken from the
Old Testament Book of Job:
T
Job spoke, saying: Is not man’s life on earth a drudgery? Are his
days those of hirelings? He is a slave who longs for the shade, a
hireling who waits for his wages. So I have been assigned months of
misery and troubled nights have been allotted to me. If in bed I say,
“When shall I arise?” then the night drags on; I am filled with
restlessness until the dawn. My days are swifter than a weaver’s
shuttle; they come to an end without hope. Remember that my life is
like the wind; I shall not see happiness again.
Some twenty five years ago I had to read this entire book in the
ancient Hebrew language as part of my biblical studies and while I
would not recommend doing it in Hebrew, it would be worthwhile for
anyone to read this work in its entirety in English. So much do I like
this ancient book and figure that I named my first dog Job. I later gave
this dog away and the next owner understandably changed his name
to Joey. My next puppy I named Buddy Beagle and he has been
perfectly content to be called by that name ever since.
Job was a man who was holy and righteous in the eyes of God and
was therefore blessed in every aspect of his life. He had a large family
and many herds and was well regarded by all. One day God boasted
of the goodness of Job to Satan, who hates God, goodness and
humanity. So Satan countered that Job only loves God because he has
been materially blessed and that if he were stripped of all his blessings,
then Job would curse God instead of blessing him. God allowed Satan,
therefore, to strip Job of all his many material and familial blessings
to test his love and faithfulness. So Satan orchestrated the destruction
of the sons and daughters of Job, the loss of all his herds and wealth,
and the loss of his own health, all in a remarkably short period of time.
In the face of all these disasters his wife told him to “curse God and
die” but Job remained resolute in his faith in God. Much of the true
story recounts Job sitting on a dung heap scraping sores on his body
with broken pottery while three of his friends try to convince him that
he must have somehow sinned or offended God to have born so many
sorrows. Throughout all this peer pressure Job never sins and never
loses faith in God. In the end, God more than restores the wealth and
offspring of Job. The most moving statement of Job in the midst of
suffering is, “I know that my Redeemer lives!”
When we find ourselves tested severely in life by some tragedy or
great difficulty, such as the death of a loved one, the loss of
employment or possessions, the loss of health or mobility, the real life
figure and experience of Job can provide us inspiration and example.
Hundreds of years before the coming of Christ, Job trusted that his
Redeemer would rescue him. We now say as well, “I know that my
Redeemer lives!”

HOLY TRINITY SCHOOL NOTES
At the end of every school year our graduating 8th
graders are invited to submit an essay about what Holy
Trinity has meant to them. The following is an excerpt from
one of last year’s essays:
“Holy Trinity has given me so many opportunities to
branch out in my faith. From just going to Mass on
Wednesdays to getting to go to the Cathedral to pray the
Rosary with many other schools. I get to have religion class
every day. Some kids don’t have the opportunity to do that.
I also got to make my Confirmation this year. Holy Trinity
has influenced me to try to learn more about my faith and
to become more involved in the Church. Everyone at Holy
Trinity is so kind, and I can always look up to them if I need
help. The teachers helped me find my weaknesses and turn
them into strengths. In first grade I was not very good at
reading, but now I read for fun. And I’m reading 4 grades
above my grade level. Holy Trinity has prepared me that I
may not always be the best at something, but I always need
to try. I have learned that everything may not always go my
way, and sometimes I might have to work harder for things,
but in the end it always pays off. Even though I am leaving
Holy Trinity, Holy Trinity will never leave me. Holy Trinity
is like home to me.”
Finally, congratulations to our “Final Four” in last
week's 2015 Spelling Bee:
Champion: 5th gr. - Steven Ikens
2nd place (tie): 4th gr. - Danny Nix & 5th gr. - Jack Garvey
3rd place: 5th gr. - Greta Uecker
God bless you all!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
“Saint of the Month” lessons in our Religious Education
classes help students learn about the heroes of our Church.
During February we are focusing on Saint Blaise. Saint
Blaise is an ancient Saint whose many life details are
unknown however he is believed to have been a bishop and
martyr. It is believed that shortly before his martyrdom,
Saint Blaise cured a boy who was choking on a fishbone.
Since that time, Saint Blaise is invoked for ailments of the
throat and it is tradition for the Blessing of the Throats to
take place on his feast day, Feb. 3rd. Thank you to Father
Grabner and Father Echert for blessing the throats of our
students this past week! Saint Blaise, pray for us! Parents
are encouraged to ask their students about the saints we
study each month to reinforce the lessons at home and
inspire the students to model their lives after these holy men
and women of God.
THANK YOU!
AOTM FEBRUARY EVENT
Dear Donors from Holy Trinity Parish,
Our sincere thank you for the generous donations you
made to us in October, November and December, 2014. Your
donation of 329 pounds of food items as well as hats, mittens,
scarves and clothing for our Holiday program is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks also to the Religious Education Program for the
generous donation of 97 pounds of food items made to us in
November, 2014 .
Many of your neighbors will benefit from these gifts from
your heart.
Calling all men! The next Argument of the Month event is this
Tuesday evening, February 10, in the St. Augustine Church Hall.
The evening begins at 6:00 pm with hearty appetizers followed by
a delicious dinner cooked on site by the guys. Then we have our
featured speaker, Steve Woods, who is a nationally known expert
and advocate against pornography, which has stolen souls, ruined
lives, families and careers. Given the delicate nature of this topic
fathers are forewarned and urged to give due consideration as to
whether this talk is suitable for their sons, especially any under the
age of sixteen. The evening will include dessert and argument as
well. Cost for the entire evening is a mere fifteen dollars. Hope to
see you for this pre-Lent event.
CABIN FEVER BINGO
Mark your calendars for the ever
popular Cabin Fever Bingo event on the
Friday prior to Lent, February 13 in the
Holy Trinity School Cafeteria. The
evening includes pizza, pop and goodies
and lots of bingo. Beer will be on sale as
well. We are in need of Good Samaritans willing to sponsor
refreshments for the evening, which allows us to keep our
costs down. If you are willing to help out with refreshments
or goodies please stop by the Commons Area after any Mass
this weekend. Advance tickets are available at that time and
tickets will be sold at the event itself.
