Welcome Resource Conservationist Hello Everyone! My name is Justin Wagner and I have been selected as the new Resource Conservationist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in Montgomery County. I will be assisting Jeff Barnes, the District Conservationist in Montgomery and Preble counties, and will share my time between both offices. I started my conservation career as summer help with NRCS in Shelby County in 2006. After college, I was hired as the District Technician in Van Wert County, and then as the Soil Conservation Technician on the Grand Lake St. Marys Project. During my time there, I earned a Bachelor’s in Agriculture. Shortly after finishing that, I was accepted for this position. I grew up in Botkins, Ohio, raising show pigs, and being actively involved in 4-H and FFA. Enjoying the outdoors along with raising livestock is what motivated me to pursue a career in Conservation. I currently still reside in Botkins with my wife, Megan and our three sons. I look forward to working with the landowners and producers of Montgomery County, and I encourage anyone who has questions to call me or send an email. Welcome PF Farm Bill Biologist Hello everyone. Rain Barrels Garden Cover Crops A Rain Barrel collects and stores some of the rain water from your roof for you to use later. This system hooks into your existing downspout and overflows back into it, protecting your foundation. Use the water to water your garden or lawn, wash your car, or add water to your compost. The soft rain water is better for plants and won’t ‘spot’ your car. Storing the water helps keep our streams healthy and prevents flooding. Help the environment, your plants, and even your water bill! Garden Cover Crops - 1/2 lb $5.00 ½ pound will cover 100 - 150 sq. ft. Cover crops are planted for the benefits they provide to soil health, plant vitality, and pollinators. These mixes contain untreated seeds and an inoculant that is OMRI approved for organic gardens.
