The invitation is extended to an area non-profit organization which uses art in their programming, enhancing the use of art in our community. This year we welcome: The Heartside Ministry Gallery and Studio We invite you to view the works made by the artists of the neighborhood– intuitive, “outsider” and primitive schools–are all reflected in the creative expressions of people who speak honestly from their experiences of being marginalized, disenfranchised or largely ignored by society. Permanent Collection View a sample of the fine art work in the First United Methodist Church permanent collection. These works are part of a collection of well over 120 pieces that have been donated or purchased since the beginning of Celebration. –3– Juror’s Statement Thank you for inviting me to jury the Celebration of the Arts exhibition once again. I’ve judged more than 200 exhibits over fifty years, from local art clubs to national shows, but it is only here at this beautiful church, surrounded by several hundred works of art, that I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. You, dear artists are gifted with a creative art gene. God specially selected you to continue his work during your time on earth. It is a vocation and a challenge given the demands of our busy lives. The gift is not free. It requires work, practice, study and commitment. You are responsible, not just to develop it, but to share it with others. In jurying an exhibit, I consider academic criteria: strong composition, effective use of color, technical skills and knowledge of the medium. The work should communicate an idea, a mood, some originality and the unique “voice” of the maker. If your work was not accepted in this exhibit, share it with others whenever possible. Congratulations to all artists included, especially the recipients of prizes. Thank you for inspiring your juror and all the viewers of this extraordinary celebration of life and love.
