Dear Parent
Online Safety
The link below provides further advice about keeping your child safe
online.
https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2014/11/14/protect-your-teens-7apps-and-websites-parents-should-be-aware-of/
A chat room and instant messaging app that has caused some distress to a young student
and exposed her to inappropriate content has come to our attention. The APP is 'OOVOO'.
This allows youngsters to chat to up to 12 people at once as well as record and upload to
YouTube.
Unfortunately, strangers may join the conversation leaving students vulnerable to
inappropriate language or much worse.
Further information on chat room safety can be found using the link below:
https://www.getsafeonline.org/social-networking/chatrooms/
Meeting with school staff
Should you require an appointment with a member of our staff, please ring to make an
appointment before arriving in reception. Although we endeavour to assist parents quickly if
they need to speak to us, it is not always possible or appropriate for our staff to meet
immediately and without warning. A pre-arranged appointment will allow you to meet with
the most appropriate person and also allow us to gather relevant information in advance.
Instrumental Lessons
Instrumental lessons are available for a number of instruments including:
Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon
Keyboard/piano
Violin, Cello/double bass and many more
Instrumental lessons work out at £5 a lesson and are free to students on free school meals.
If your child is interested in starting lessons in any of the above instruments please ask them
to see Mrs Clarke in Music for an information leaflet or contact her on
[email protected]
Lost Property
A reminder to parents that the school does have a lost property room, which is situated in
an area near the school gym. It is open every morning, break and at lunchtime from 12.451.15pm by Mr Townend for students to come and claim any lost items. We do ask that
items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name so we can endeavour to return
found items to them. However, many items are not labelled and remain unclaimed and, as
such, we will be displaying these items each term to enable students to reclaim their
property.
This term the ‘Claim Days’ will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday 11, 12 and 13 February. Please do encourage your child, if they have
lost some of their property, to check what has been found. Any unclaimed
items at this stage will be donated to a charity chosen by the school or
disposed of.
Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
It is that time of year again when the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers are being
handed out in store. If you shop there, or occasionally visit, when paying for
shopping please say yes if the cashier asks you.
Last year you had to spend £10.00 to receive 1, it does not sound like a lot but each voucher
collected allows us to purchase more equipment free of charge. The total count for last
year’s vouchers was just under 6,000 which we were able to put really good use.
Thank you for your help and support.
