Mullendore Elementary’s book fair is Feb. 9–13.
Richland High School’s cheerleading and mascot tryout packets for the 2015–16 school year will be available online and
at the high school and feeder middle schools beginning Monday, Feb. 9. A mandatory parent meeting for potential
candidates and their parents will be held in the Omni Room at Richland High School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.
The completed packet is due back to the high school by Friday, March 6. Tryouts will be conducted at Richland on

Richland Elementary’s Scholastic Book Fair is Feb. 9–13.
Green Valley Elementary’s book fair is Feb. 10–13 in the library. The hours for Tuesday and Thursday are from
8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday’s hours are from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; and Friday is from 8 a.m. – noon.
Fourth-grade students from BISD will see the Fort Worth Children’s Opera on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Holiday Heights Elementary’s ASPIRE program is partnering with Children’s Medical Center of Dallas to help families

Monday, Feb. 16 is a student holiday for BISD students and a professional learning day for staff.
BISD’s Spelling Bee will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Thomas Coliseum. Campus champions will compete for the
opportunity to advance to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Spelling Bee. Invited guests will include parents, principals,
administrators, community members and campus runners-up.

A beginning and intermediate sign language class is starting at Porter Elementary from 6:30–8 p.m. Feb. 19 in the

Birdville Council of PTAs will celebrate Founders Day, commemorating the establishment of the Parent Teacher
Association (PTA) Feb. 19 with dinner at 6 p.m. and the program beginning at 7 p.m. at the Thomas Coliseum. Students
who have won at the PTA Council-level of the annual Reflections Arts Program will be recognized at this event. Dinner

BISD is accepting online applications for parent/community volunteers for the 2014‒15 school year. New and returning
volunteers can submit or renew their applications online at http://schools.birdvilleschools.net/Page/31523.
BISD’s middle school gymnastics tryouts for the 2015‒16 school year are from 5:30–7:30 p.m. April 14 at the BISD
Gymnastics Center. The Center is located at 6010 Walker Street, Haltom City. Packets are available on each of the middle
school campuses and must be complete and returned no later than April 10. For information, email Kerri Horsley at

BISD has an employee recognition program called “A Touch of Class.” This program is an opportunity for students, staff,
parents and community members to recognize employees for the extra-ordinary things they do for children and the
district. For information, or to make a nomination, visit the district’s website at birdvilleschools.net.
Birdville ISD and JPS have joined together to provide two school-based clinics in the district. One is in Haltom City at
2807 Layton Ave., and the other is on the south side of The Academy at C.F. Thomas at 8200 O’Brian Way in North
Richland Hills. The clinics treat students in BISD and their siblings, ages newborn to 18 years old. Services include: wellchild visits, sports physicals, acute care, chronic illnesses (asthma, diabetes), immunizations, and much more. The clinic
does not have X-ray capabilities or dental services. They see uninsured or Medicaid students that do not have a specified
