(MO) Black History Month Fact of the Day On this day in 1934, William Felton Russell, better known as "Bill" Russell was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He was player­coach of the Boston Celtics basketball team in 1968 and 1969. Russell was a defensive and rebounding force. Five times he was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, and his 21,620 rebounds are second only to Chamberlain’s career mark. Over the course of his 13­year career in the NBA, Russell steered the Celtics to 11 titles. He retired in 1969 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame six years later. The BLS division of the Scripps National Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, February 26 at 2:30 in the auditorium. Registered students are reminded to dress as you would for declamation and take advantage of this extra time to study the word lists online.
