I certainly hope you all enjoyed a well deserved break over the Christmas and New Year break. The Waves hits the ground running this year with some fantastic new additions, specifically two new bingo sessions each Wednesday added to our already impressive bingo portfolio (see page 7 for all bingo information), as well as an all new $1,000 Hamper Grab game show in our gaming room each Friday. The Hamper Grab will be the highest value game show and I look forward to its launch on February 6 (page 6). on March 7. Their previous two shows with The Waves have been total sell outs and I expect the same for their third appearance. Different in this show, however, is the offer to buy a sit down, two course gourmet dinner ticket or a standing only ticket which will be a cheaper option for those not wishing to dine. See page 14 for more information. Last but not least The Waves offers up another two months of terrific entertainment including the return of our Morning Shows, the first of which appears on February 11. Seen in the images, patients of the Base Hospital were surprised to receive their gifts just a few days before Christmas. Congratulations to Tanya, Judi and The Waves staff who set aside their entire morning for such a fantastic cause. Staff Member of the Month: Kelli Rasmussen Truwyn Walsh November 2014 December 2014 Kelli has been employed with The Waves Sports Club for over eight years now and reception is where you’ll find her, ever-assisting member or guest enquiries but also assisting all levels of management in an array of daily tasks. Truwyn is still relatively new to The Waves, however he keeps going from strength to strength. His work ethic and customer service skills, not to mention his teamwork, has earned him a second staff member of the month award since commencing in August. John From February, every second and fourth Wednesday of each month The Waves will host a free morning show. With national and international acts like John McSweeney, Tommy Memphis, Fortunato, Steve Hill and Leisa Kerris just to name a few. Each show includes a free musical, comedic and/or entertaining two and a half hour performance and a raffle on conclusion of the show at 12.00pm, which includes twenty prizes guaranteed to be won. A free courtesy bus service also operates for pick-up to The Waves between 8.30am – 9.00am and drop-off home at 2.00pm. 10 McSweeney Fortunato Tommy Memphis Steve Hill SUB CLUBS SENIOR RUGBY LEAGUE Finding their new home with The Waves Sports Club in 1993, the Across the Waves Senior Rugby League Club stands tall today boasting an U18 team and both reserve and A-grade teams of senior men. The club conducts official competition games and training as well as social events for its members and their families. Competition includes a March to September season of seven regional A-grade teams as part of Queensland Rugby League, with home games for the Tigers held at Salter Oval on varying Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, with away games usually held on Saturday evenings. Training is held during both on-season and off-season. For a short period of time this off-season, gym training sessions will occur at the Bundaberg Boxing Academy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6pm and 7pm respectively, and at The Waves Sports Complex, Thabeban Street on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm for all remaining off-season and on-season training. There are no joining fees or costs to become a member of Across the Waves Senior Rugby League Club. Prospective members are encouraged to arrive to training sessions 15 minutes prior to commencement for an introduction to the club and a meet-and-greet, where following, sign up occurs and training can commence with fellow team mates. www.acrossthewaves.com Social events are also a big part of the club with bye rounds usually being utilised for social gatherings that, in the past have included ten pin bowling and beach BBQ’s where kids and families are always welcome. The club also encourages its members to attend The Waves Sports Club, post match, each week, for celebratory meals, drinks and team bonding.
