General Background
Eton College, which was founded by Henry VI in 1440 for 70 scholars, has over the years
become a boarding school catering for 1300 boys. It is the largest boarding school for boys
in the UK.
Eton’s academic results are excellent. A very wide range of sports, activities and societies is
offered and the demand for places at the School is strong.
A total of about 800 people work at Eton and in addition to the teachers there are staff
working in the 25 Boarding Houses, central dining facility, grounds, security, buildings and
others work as swimming pool attendants, technicians, and administrative staff.
The School and its immediate grounds and playing fields extend over 400 acres from the
north end of Eton High Street to the M4 by Slough. There are some 400 school buildings
including staff accommodation and a 2,000 metre rowing lake at Dorney, designated as the
London 2012 Olympic venue for rowing and flat-water canoeing.
We are looking for a Domestic Assistant to work 27 hours per week

The Domestic Assistant plays a vital role in the Boarding House and the duties and criteria
required are set out in the Job Description.
The Domestic Assistant will be working in Waynflete and will be a live out position. The
rate of pay is £7.72 per hour and the annual salary is £8,462 per annum. The paid holiday
leave detailed below and the working year comprises 37 weeks made up of term time and 3
additional days before the boys start back at the beginning of each term. Salary is paid
monthly via BACS. This rate of pay takes full account of the paid holiday provisions below.
Holidays
Four weeks’ paid statutory holiday per annum, plus Bank Holidays which are also paid.
When a Bank Holiday falls during a School term there is a requirement to work on that day
which is already included in the salary. You are required to take your paid holidays
(including any additional days in lieu) during the school holidays, excluding the three days
before the start and end of term.

JOB TITLE:

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide cleaning service for boys’ rooms and a large element of pastoral care,
you will have frequent contact with the boys and in addition to your job role will
be able to take an interest in the activities of the house such as sports, plays and
musical productions.
CONTACT: Considerable contact with boys. Some contact with parents
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Responsible for cleaning and vacuuming bedrooms and corridors, washing walls,
mirrors, skirting boards, cleaning windows
Supervise boys’ clothes and laundry, sending boys’ clothing and sheets to laundry
once a week; check return of these items and report numbers of missing sheets
and pillowcases. Make sure name tapes are sewn on all items of boys’ clothing.
Establish good relations with boys from an early stage. Boys should be encouraged
to be polite, well-mannered, friendly and well turned out. Encourage boys in all
aspects of tidiness, e.g. hanging up suits, turning off electric equipment, putting up
beds.
To help out during small events and larger social functions to meet the needs of
the House.
There is also a strong element of pastoral care and the Domestic Assistant has a
responsibility to ensure that all relevant information is communicated to the Dame
and that the College’s child protection procedures are adhered to at all times.
You will be required to attend all training sessions and meetings that might be
necessary for you carry out your professional duties, including pastoral and Health
and Safety matters.
