MEET YOUR MINISTERS
We want to make sure you
know who your ministers are
here at Pioneer Drive. Each
week we will introduce a
minister and give you a small
glimpse into their ministry.

What is a favorite childhood memory? Memories of
my father are special to me, but few, since he died when
I was eight. I remember a cold winter night near or on
Christmas Eve. He took me deer hunting with him. When
it got dark we walked back to the pickup and together we
searched the sky with his binoculars and rifle scope to find
the brightest star ... the one that might have guided the
Wise Men to Jesus. I was only five, but I’ll never forget it.
What is a favorite memory with Claudia? Claudia
and I record the old “Columbo” reruns every Sunday night
at 7 p.m. and watch them together when we get home from
evening worship. With popcorn in the bowls and a diet Dr.
Pepper in the Baylor commemorative cups. We compete
with each other to see which of us will discover the key clue
first. (Do you really need help guessing who usually wins?)
What is your favorite part of being a pastor? Well,
weddings are certainly more enjoyable than funerals.
Both are part of the call, however and both offer unique
opportunities to minister to folks. But hands down (or
hands up if you have Pentecostal leanings), there is no
thrill or joy in ministry that rivals helping someone come to
faith in Jesus. I believe it’s the greatest privilege we have as
believers. We are all beggars, showing other beggars where
to find Bread.
Do you remember when you felt called to the
ministry? I went to college to study law. Early in my
freshman year at Baylor I realized law was what I wanted
to do, but I’d never actually asked God what He wanted. It
didn’t take Him long to answer. On a Wednesday night in
October at a B. S.U. led worship service, God spoke directly
to my heart and I had my answer. I’m now in my fortieth
year of church ministry. I’ve served as youth, college, and
recreation minister, associate pastor, single-staff church
pastor and multi-staff pastor. Each assignment has been
challenging and rewarding - especially with Claudia as my
“Associate Pastor”. I cannot imagine living a more fulfilling
life.
*Next week we will begin introducing our support staff.
50 YEARS OF ROCK N’ ROLL ... with Abilene Symphonic
power will be enjoyed on Saturday, February 21, at the Civic

February 21. Did someone say chocolate? We will provide
all types of sweets for this lunch. Bring your favorite sweets
to the Church Office on Friday by noon or to the Church
Kitchen on Saturday between 10-11:30 a.m.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Many international students leave the U.S. without
ever being inside the home of an American family.
For this reason, the Friendship Family program was
created. Currently there is a need for 2 families
this semester. The family simply meets with an
international student at least once a month for one
semester. It’s a great opportunity to minister to
international students while learning about their
culture and world! Contact [email protected]
for more information.
