WEEK 1 • June 29- July 3
FUN IN THE SUN
We will celebrate the start of summer camp with a sampling of insect
investigations, ponding, animal identification, stream studies, orienteering, and, letterboxing.
WEEK 2 • July 6-10
BUG-A-THON
Come with your exploring eyes to search and take an inventory of the
insects in the woods, fields, pond and yard. It is always a surprise to
see what we find! We shall investigate what is hiding under logs and
leaves, flying to the flowers, using bug nets and other cool tools.
There will be a day trip this week to a nearby, offsite destination.
Directions where to drop off your child will be provided.
Skills campers will learn:
• How to use insect nets
• How to use magnifying glasses
WEEK 3 • July 13-17
CROWS, JAYS & BIRDS OF PREY
Birds of prey fascinate everyone. Crows and jays are very intelligent
and live with their families for years. Learn the kinds of food all of
these birds like to eat and where we can find them. Campers will visit
with our birds of prey and other feathered friends and meet a young
falconer who will...
Skills campers will learn:
• How to use binoculars
• Some bird calls and songs
• Make a bird house
WEEK 4 • July 20-24
STREAM WALKERS
Put on an old pair of sneakers to go for a hike in the stream. Be
prepared to have fun getting wet and muddy! Discover what creatures
live in the water and on the banks of the Holland Brook. Campers will
collect animals living in the water and use microscopes and other
science equipment to explore the hidden world that lives within the
Hubbard Brook!
Skills campers will learn:
• How to use a microscope
• How to identify various organisms that live in the water
WEEK 6 • August 3-7
POND & STREAM
We’ll have fun as we explore and splash our way through the week in
the pond, stream and a visit to the CT River. Plan on getting wet and
muddy in this week’s class. A change of clothing is recommended.
Please wear old sneakers; flip flops are NOT appropriate.
Skills campers will learn:
• How to make a homemade fishing rod and reel
• How to try catching fish with their self-made equipment
• How to identify some local fish species
We’ll have fun as we explore and splash our way through the week in
the pond, stream and a visit to the CT River.
WEEK 7 • August 10-14
MAPS & LETTERBOXING
Ever wonder how to use a compass? We will learn how they are used
and use them when we learn about letterboxing.
Skills campers will learn:
• How to use a compass for letterboxing and orienteering
• How to use the Internet to find letterboxing sites in the area
WEEK 8 • August 17-21
END OF THE SUMMER FUN
Let’s hold on to the vestiges of summer and enjoy mini versions of the full
weeks we had all summer. Bug collecting, pond and stream explorations,
birding and letterboxing.
Skills campers will learn:
• How to use a compass for letterboxing and orienteering
• How to use a microscope to identify organisms from the pond and stream
• How to use bug nets and other scientific tools
AGES 5-9 9am - 4pm
WILD ABOUT ANIMALS
It’s a week of discovering who lives in our great outdoors and dig into
how they survive and thrive! We will study how their fur, feathers,
slime and scales help them live in their native environments. Visit with
our center’s animals, too!
Skills campers will learn:
• How to build a shelter in the woods
• How to identify our commonly-seen wild animals
• What adaptations these animals have to live in CT
There will be a day trip this week to a nearby, offsite destination.

For the little ones, camp offers direct hands-on experiences in nature.

WEEK 1 • June 29-July 3
FUN IN THE SUN

investigations, ponding, and animal identification.
Campers will:
• Become familiar with the trails and various habitats of Earle Park
• Explore what kind of animals live in Earle Park
WEEK 2
BUGS

July 6-July 10
We will explore the woods, fields, pond and yard. It is always a
surprise to see what we can find. Come with your exploring eyes to
look under logs and leaves, on flowers, close to the ground and in
the grasses. There are insects, big and very small, to find.
Campers will:
• Learn what makes an insect an insect
• Learn what makes an insect different from a spider
WEEK 3 • July 13-17
BIRDS
What makes a bird a bird? Do all birds fly? Why and how do they
make nests? We will look at bird adaptations that help them
survive: beaks, feet and wings. Attract the birds with a bird feeder
to count and identify our local feathered friends.
Campers will:
• Make their own binoculars
• Learn how to identify some local birds at our feeders
WEEK 4
•
July 20-24
WATER FUN
On these warm July days, it’s fun to play in the water and learn
about the creatures that live there. See who lives in the pond and
stream. We will also look at who lives in the ocean and Long Island
Sound. Wear an old pair of sneakers or water shoes.
Campers will:
• Use nets to collect and view pond and stream animals
• Learn where our water comes from and where it goes

• Enjoy our shell collection and add a few to yours
WEEK 7 • August 10-14
MAPS & TREASURES
Imagine finding a pirate’s treasure map! Wouldn’t that be fun? How
do you read it to know how to get to the treasure? We will learn
about simple maps and map making. We will find our way to
discovering some buried treasures.
Campers will:
• Learn about what a compass is and how it works
AGES 3-4 10am - 12pm

Online & Mail-In Registration procedures for all 2015 Summer Camps
held at our Center at Fairfield, Center at Glastonbury,
Center at Pomfret and Coastal Center at Milford Point.
Online REGISTRATION:
1. Start at the Connecticut Audubon Society website: www.ctaudubon.org/summercamp
2. Go to the location where your child will attend camp. (Center at Fairfield, Center at
Glastonbury, Center at Pomfret or the Coastal Center at Milford Point).
3. Complete the online registration process.
4. You must have a current CAS family membership to register for summer camp
programs. Not a current member? You can renew or join at time of registration.
5. Minimum 50% deposit per week by credit card must accompany al l online registrations.
6. You will receive an e-mail confirmation.
7. Please check each Center’s website for detailed camp policies and procedures.
If you prefer to pay by check, please see the mail-in registration procedures below.
MAIL-IN REGISTRATION: must be postmarked on or af ter February 11, 2015.
For registrations at different CAS Centers: mail separate registrations and payments directly to each Center.
1. Complete the Registration & Parental Permission form on page 7 of the camp brochure.
2. If you are registering more than one child, please use a separate form for each child.
Forms are also available at CAS Centers or www.ctaudubon.org/center-at-glastonbury.
3. You may send in one payment for all classes registered for one family.
4. A minimum 50% deposit per camp week, in the form of check or credit card, must
accompany all mail-in registrations.
5. You must have a current CAS family membership to register for summer camp
programs. Not a current member? You can renew or join at time of registration.
6. You will receive an e-mail confirmation along with additional permission and medical
forms.
7. Please check each Center’s website for detailed camp policies and procedures.
WEATHER POLICY:
All programs are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, an outdoor activity may be replaced
with an equivalent indoor activity. We reserve the right to change programs without notification.
REFUND POLICY
• Cancellations: All cancellation requests must be received by email or in writing.
If we receive your cancellation request a minimum of two weeks before your camp week starts you
will receive a refund minus a 20% fee per program cancelled. Membership fees are not refundable.
• Changes to another week must be received by email or in writing a minimum of two weeks prior to
the program session for which the change is being requested.
• If we cancel, you will receive a full summer camp program refund.
