Here are a few ideas to help you finally meet those resolutions while also making “going green” your resolution too! • Bike/walk more and drive less (it will help you drop the last five extra pounds and allow you to cancel your expensive gym membership) • Watch more sunsets and less TV (you’ll find yourself more relaxed) • Source healthier food from neighboring organic farmer (you’ll find yourself cooking more with family and relying less on sodium-soaked, highly processed foods) Resource: GAIAM Life When LifeWise began in 1995, it was the first program of its kind in the community promoting physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellness through educational opportunities, activities, and events to those 55 and older. Today (20 years later), LifeWise remains committed to holistically engaging seniors in a healthy and enriching life! What was once the “Brown Bag Lunch” program 20 years ago is now called “Lunch and Learn,” but while the names have changed the objective still remains – educating members on important health topics with insight and information from physicians and health educators. As we take this time to reflect on the history of LifeWise and the legacy and traditions we’ve built each year, we are also very excited about the future. LifeWise will continue to empower our members to focus the positive aspects of aging and embracing a healthy lifestyle! We are looking forward to celebrating with you throughout the year and hearing your stories of how LifeWise has impacted your life. Please look for more information on special celebrations in the upcoming wisewords newsletters. 2 6 8 Health & Wellness Club Life Social Scene 9 10 12 Trip Takers Events Recap Members’ Information health & wellness Lunch & Learn Coffee Talk Tuesday, January 20 Treating Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms Wednesday, February 25 The Secret No One Wants to Talk About! TD Convention Center 11:15 am – 1:00 pm ST. FRANCIS millennium 2 Innovation Drive 10:00 - 11:00 am An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) occurs when the wall of the aorta progressively weakens and begins to bulge. An AAA may continue to enlarge and eventually rupture if left untreated, causing severe internal bleeding and possibly death. A ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm results in more than 15,000 people dying annually in the United States. It’s estimated that more than one million people are living with undiagnosed AAA. Dr. Williams will explain how at least 95 percent of AAAs can be successfully treated if detected prior to rupture. There are millions of people who deal with the embarrassing and disruptive effects of urinary incontinence, one of the most hidden secrets we all try to hide and rarely discuss, especially in public. Urinary incontinence is not just a women’s problem, men suffer as well. In fact, about 3.4 million men in the United States are estimated to be dealing with incontinence right now. There are many myths about the causes of urinary incontinence. Ms. Rush will address these causes and help us understand why the problem exists and what may be the root cause.
