Introduction to the product
Derived
from
sustainable
and
renewable origin, the fruit of the
Garcinia mangostana or mangosteen,
is known as the “queen of the fruit”
due to its delicious taste and pleasant
aroma.
The origin of this plant is in the
Southest Asia countries . The fruit rind
of Garcinia Mangostana has been used
in Asian traditional medicines for the
treatment of skin infection, wounds,
diarrhea, dysenthery, ulcers.
It contains high amount of xanthones, such as the family
of mangostin, which are the major component, and other
bioactive substances including tannins, flavonoids and
polyphenolic compounds, which justify its well known
antioxidant properties

number of different activities which justifies its use as
food supplement and in traditional medicine
Cosmetic application of the GM extract derives mainly

Vari® Stan PE - Antibacterial properties
The antibacterial properties of Garcinia mangostana extract has been
assessed in vitro against a group of Gram+ strains , including Staph .
aureus and Bac. cereus , bacteria present in many critical skin areas
The MIC values found for the dry extract confirm the strong and

Vari® Stan PE - Antibacterial properties (deodorant)
Variati research also evaluated the antimicrobial properties of
Vari®Stan PE against microbial strains isolated from armpit of human
volunteers.
The microorganisms had been before identified, resulting principally
Staphylococcus strains with a
prevalent presence of Staph.
epidermidis
Isolated strains:
- Staphylococcus epidermidis
- Staphylococcus capitis
Vari® Stan PE has been evaluated at different concentrations from
0,15% to 2,5% and at two different times of contact,
6 h and 18 h
respectively.

Vari Stan PE - Antibacterial properties (deodorant)
Results show a good antimicrobial efficacy already after 6
hours of contact at 0,15 - 0,5% and an increase of the
logarithmic reduction after 18 hours, such suggesting a
long lasting efficacy for deodorant application.

Vari® Stan PE - Sniff test
The in vivo study, conducted by sniff test, have also
confirmed the long lasting deodorant features, classifying
the intensity of the odor as “no odor” after 12h and 24h
from 1% Vari® Stan PE deodorant application vs Placebo.

Antibacterial properties (anti(anti-acne)
Propionibacterium acnes is a Gram+ resident bacteria of the skin’s face
follicles . It uses sebum as a nutrient for growth
People with acne tends to have more Propionibacterium acnes strains
in their follicles than people without acne
Besides Propionibact. Acnes, other
commonly resident bacteria (Staph.
epidermidis Corynobacteria) are known
to be involved in acneic skin disorders.
Overall, stopping bacterial proliferation
is one of the strategies needed for a
successful cosmetic treatment of
acneic skin .

A recent in vivo clinical test (*) conducted on female volunteers with
acne-prone skin also showed a significant decrease in acne lesions,
including comedones, microcysts, papules and pustules after 28 days
of treatment
Mangosteen extracts was reported in
literature (**) to strongly inhibit the
prostaglandin E2 release. Particularly,
α-mangostin inhibits COX-1 and
COX-2 activities in vitro, suggesting a
beneficial use for anti-inflammation
treatments.

Soothing effect of Vari Stan PE
Clinical test on skin irradiated by a solar simulator
(UVA/UVB rays)
®
The evaluation of the soothing effect of Vari Stan PE was carried
out on irradiated skin of 20 volunteers with photo type I, II, III.
The product was tested at 0.5% (sample A) and 1% (sample B),
measures were carried out 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 24 hours after the
application of the product.
Area treated with placebo and untreated area were evaluated in
comparison.
A significant decrease in erythema index was observed already after

30 minutes from the treatment with Vari Stan PE at both
concentrations.
Digital pictures also show an evident reduction of redness between
the area irradiated by a UVA/UVB rays and the same area after 30
®
minutes from the application of a cream with Vari Stan PE at 0.5%
(sample A).

Different studies have demonstrated that Vari® Stan PE can
be considered an effective natural alternative in deodorant
products and in the treatment of acne and inflammation
prone skin, for natural derived cosmetics.
Thanks to its soothing action, Vari Stan PE is also
suggested for after shave, after depilatory and after sun
cosmetic products.
