It is the largest of 17 Hospital and Health Services in the Queensland Public Health system. It covers an area of 4157 square kilometres and serves a population approaching 900,000 people. Metro North HHS is unique in its composition in that two of its five hospitals are tertiary facilities that provide statewide super specialty services such as Heart and Lung Transplantation, Burns, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). Metro North HHS has a range of subacute, post acute, community based health services to support patient discharge and hospital avoidance as well as a number of residential facilities, Oral Health Services and a fully integrated Mental Health Service including both community and hospital based care. Purpose To assist an Anaesthetist in the safe conduct of all Anaesthetic Procedures. To provide competent skilled assistance to the Department of Anaesthesia and Peri-operative Medicine. To act as a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing a high standard of patient care. Your key responsibilities Prepare the anaesthetic environment and assist the Anaesthetist during anaesthetic procedures. Provide skilled assistance for all elective and emergency anaesthetic procedures. Prepare and maintain equipment in accordance with departmental policy and manufacturers guidelines for maintenance, consumable supplies and auditing processes. Demonstrate initiative and participate as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring all patient needs are met. Participate in the departmental roster, including continuous shift rotations of up to 10 hour duration and on call. Maintain and upgrade personal knowledge and skills. Carry out the duties of Shift Co-ordinator as required and ensure all documentation is completed as necessary. Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals. Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies. Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Evidence of 12 months postgraduate experience is mandatory. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties. Diploma Applied Science (Anaesthetics) or recognised equivalent. While not mandatory, voluntary registration with Australasian Society of Anaesthesia. Work Unit Professional services are provided to: • 22 theatres • Gastroenterology Unit • Thoracic Medicine & Cardiology • Birth Suite • Mental Health procedures • Medical Imaging including Neuro interventional procedures and MRI In addition, the Department of Anaesthesia runs a consultant led Acute Pain Service 7 days per week. Crucial to the department is the ongoing development of a teaching and research focus underpinning the activity of the unit. Allied to this is a close link to the University of Queensland. The Unit also actively supports the training of Anaesthetic Technician students and Nursing students.
