School Prayer
Christ our King,
As we walk with You under the
rainbow,
Help us to accept our daily challenge
to make Jesus real.
Dare us to seek knowledge,
Dare us to show compassion and
forgiveness,
Rainbow Song
Red and orange, yellow and green
Blue and indigo and violet and me
Side by side together we grow
Underneath God’s beautiful rainbow
Red is for your Spirit of love
Seven gifts from God above
Orange for the warmth of the sun
Shining down on everyone
Yellow is the colour of faith
The light of Christ in everyday
Green is for the life you give
A call to grow, a way to live
Dare us to be caretakers
of our environment,
Dare us to be welcoming
encouraging and to give of
ourselves with a generous spirit.
Bless our Bayside community
as side by side we grow.
We ask this through
Christ Our Lord,
Amen
Blue is for the sky and sea
Gifts from God, for you and me
Indigo is in between
A colour of God’s gentle peace
Violet calls us all to forgive
Together we grow, together we live
Side by side and hand in hand
Together we grow, together we can.

Yr 5/6 Interschool
Sport Semester 1
Our History
Christ The King School was opened in May, 1979 with Fr. Des McQuaid (parish priest), Althea Mitchell (Principal), Carol
Zemek (teacher) and twenty-three children. Yrs 1&2 students read all the mass readings and later joined with the
community in a parish barbecue.
On opening day, only the Library block, the Multi-purpose block and toilets were built. No playground had been cleared
and open trenches caused problems in the grounds. This was certainly a time of bonding as the children spent all day in
the classroom with the teachers.
In 1980, our first sacramental class was prepared for First Eucharist and once again presented to the parish community.
With no playing fields, the major sports activity was a weekly judo lesson. Gradually, some land was cleared and our first
sports day was held. As the oval was developed, the school was able to begin sporting competitions with the other Bay
schools.
By 1982, classrooms were completed. Shortly after, a Commonwealth grant enabled the landscaping of an area near the
old undercover area and, with enthusiastic parent support, the school frequently won the Tidy Schools Competition.
When the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary moved out of the parish in 1987, their house was converted into the Parish
Centre/Administration Block which became the School Administration Area until 2010 and is now shared facilities for St
Vincent de Paul and the Learning Support Unit.
In 1987, the Oblate priests took over in the parish from Fr. Ponting. During their stay, Fr. John, Fr. Ned, Fr. Jim, Fr. Aldo,
Fr. Harry, Fr. Lewy, Fr. Tony and now Fr. Paul and Fr. Brian have all taken an active part in the spiritual growth of the
children.
In 1990, Mr. Bob Joyce was appointed Principal. In 1996, extensive refurbishment of the school commenced. This
involved the construction of a new library, toilet block and undercover area, along with a total refurbishment of all
existing classrooms. This was completed in 1997 with the redesigning of the Administration area and the addition of a
Preschool.
In January 2000, after a year’s planning, our revolutionary multi-age 5/6/7 upper school began. In keeping with our
modern approach to education, we have embraced the importance of technology as a tool for learning, along with
an approach to education that encourages students to become lifelong learners and take responsibility for their own
learning. In November 2000, we celebrated our 21st birthday as a school—a “coming of age” that is evident both
physically and as an educational community.
In 2002, Miss Vera Zappala was appointed principal and Fr Lewy joined St Eugene Parish. In November 2004 we
celebrated our 25th birthday as a school. After a special mass we launched the new school song “The Rainbow Song”
which was written for the school by Andrew Chinn.
In 2005 our first preschool group of 1997 graduated from primary school. This was an important milestone for the
school. During these years we received grants for a Multi-purpose court and two playgrounds .
In 2006, Mr Miro Martin was appointed Principal. In 2007, Christ the King received a building grant to rebuild the whole
school. This was completed and officially opened in 2010 along with our new school hall. Other grants have made it
possible to refurbish all classrooms and library and also upgrade our Information Communication Technology resources.

Notes:
Parents play a vital role in managing behaviour at school, as it is through a co-operative effort
that most success is achieved. As with academic concerns,
you will be notified quickly if there are any concerns with regard to your child’s behaviour.
Behaviours, both positive and negative, are learnt from many sources; parents, peers, teachers and media.
Parents are the first and most important of all role models. At Christ the King we are proactive about teaching positive
behaviours and social skills. This is done both formally and informally throughout the school week. We encourage
students to model our school rules through a variety of ways; both in individual classes and at a school wide level.
All classes participate in a Play is the Way
program. The program uses specific,
physically interactive games to help children
master their emotions and manage their
behaviour. By playing the games, children
make discoveries about what does and does
not work to achieve the objectives of the
games. Process is more important than
success and from immersion in the games
comes the experiences and encounters that
lead to positive and beneficial change.

Take Responsibility
There are three main rules for the students of Christ
the King Catholic Primary school to follow. These rules
should be the basis of all appropriate behaviour within
the school environment. The rules are easy to remember
as they start with the initials of the school name CTK.
The religious life of the school is enhanced
through our ‘Make Jesus Real’ (MJR) program.
MJR makes explicit the behaviours, values and
attitudes that we want to ‘see’ in our students.
It encourages students to make Jesus real in
their everyday lives through their words and
actions.

Student’s individuality is appreciated at Christ the
King. However, we do have a compulsory school
uniform. It is our expectation that all children leave
home looking not only a credit to their families, but
also to the school to which they belong. Therefore
the following responsibilities apply to parents and
students;
Jewellery:
School Uniform:
Some guiding procedures:
The selective range of jewellery that children may
choose to wear is limited to:-
♦ A single set of studs or thin sleepers in the
ear lobe (sleepers can be twisted the entire
way around the ear lobe).
♦ T he children are to wear the official school
uniform travelling to and from school, as
well as during school hours. This includes
the official school hat.
♦ A watch
♦ A small, plain, Christian religious medal or
cross on a chain worn around the neck.
A standard letter is used to inform parents of any
concerns regarding their child’s school uniform.
Parents are then given a period of time to act on
the letter. Students who continue to attend school
with the incorrect uniform, without a note from
their parents may be excluded from playtime.
Any ongoing problems are to be referred to the
principal, who in turn will discuss concerns with
parents.
♦ By way of courtesy, parents are asked to
write a letter to the classroom teacher if
their child is ‘out of uniform, e.g. wearing
incorrect shoes’
♦ Any other piercing is not acceptable.
All items of clothing must be labelled
♦ clearly with the child’s name.
Hair:
Hats:
♦ We request that children have sunscreen
applied at home. It can be reapplied during
the day and is supplied in each classroom.
♦ As sun safety is of great concern, all
children must have a school hat for outdoor
activities, as well as travelling to and from
school.
♦ C
hildren are not permitted to have extreme
hairstyles. Hair colours are not permitted.
♦ No rat’s tails, mowhawks, tracks or stripes
or patterns are permitted
♦ The rule ‘No hat, No play’ applies to all
class activities and lunchtime play.
Hair should be the child’s natural hair
♦ colour.
♦ Only official school hats are permitted.
♦ H
air is to be kept neat and tidy and out of
the eyes at all times.
♦ If longer than collar length, it should be tied
back. This includes both boys and girls.
♦ H
air should be tied back with a dark navy
blue, brown or black hair tie if uncovered
by a scrunchie or ribbon.
Shoes:
Formal uniform: Shoes must be plain
♦ black, leather or synthetic leather lace up
school shoes. Girls have the option of also
wearing plain black, leather Mary-Jane
style shoes with a buckle. Ballet flats or
similar styles will not be permitted.
♦ Velcro strap shoes are permitted in prep
and year 1.
♦ Scrunchies or ribbons should only be
dark navy blue unless purchased from the
uniform shop
♦ D
ark navy blue head bands are permitted,
however must not exceed 2cm in width.
♦ Sports uniform: Sport shoes are to be plain
black, leather or synthetic leather lace up
appropriate for playing sport.
All hair clips should either match the
♦ natural hair colour, or should be plain silver
or navy blue.
♦ Dunlop Volleys, skate shoes or similar
styles, are not permitted with either school
uniform.
Socks:
Make up:
♦ N
o make-up or coloured lip gloss is
permitted.
Fingernails:

Night Under the Stars
Homework Policy
At Christ the King Catholic Primary School the whole school rule of “Respect and Responsibility”
is essential in the development of this particular school policy.
The Staff of Christ the King School are committed to the concepts of regular homework as a means of:
♦ establishing for students, worthwhile numeracy and literacy study habits
♦ ensuring academic transitioning processes are the best they can be from one year level to the next
♦ encouraging parental awareness and involvement in their child’s educational progress
♦ enhancing the bond between teacher and parent in the mutual task of educating a child.
1.Homework will be set to extend and reinforce work already introduced in class but not to introduce new work. Not simply unrelated photocopied activities.
2.Homework may be given daily, weekly or fortnightly with a hand-in date provided at the beginning of the week or cycle.
3. Literacy and Numeracy focuses are paramount.
4.The school guidelines in respect to nightly time allocations for homework for Early, Middle and Upper Years are at least 10 minutes but no more than 30
minutes per night, depending on age and ability levels of students. Nightly activities within each homework cycle …..
will include
♦ reading (including sight words for younger students)
♦ spelling (including associated rules)
♦ number facts (or number recognition/counting for younger students) should include
♦ written comprehension activities or genre writing
♦ c omprehension activities regarding operations or problem solving (for middle to upper children)
could include
♦ individual plans of practice
♦ a matrix or a grid to spread homework over a week or two weeks (including elements of Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Activity, Spirituality, Technology,
Art/Music/Drama, Project Research)
5.Homework consistently not completed without communication from home will be completed at school during the students’ free time.
6.Staff will regularly ensure that written homework is carefully read, corrected, marked and returned to students. They will also ensure that non-written
homework is evaluated regularly.
7.Individual differences and special needs will also be taken into account, whether that be through revision or extension tasks. Learning Support Teachers are
available to be part of this process.
8. Parents will support the practices of the school and make every endeavour to be a partner with the teacher in the educating of their child.
