April 18, 2015 - Arcanum Butler Local Schools

Dear AHS Alumni and Friends ~
Your AHS Alumni Association has re-invented itself. A committee of over
twenty fellow Alumni has been working, since last June, to reorganize and
re-energize your AHS Alumni Association. Sub-committees have been
working to update our database of Alumni addresses, raise scholarship
funds for deserving seniors, and plan our Alumni spring social event.
New Name and New Format ~

Milly (Kinsler) Strayer—1995 AHS Graduate—The scholarship from the Alumni Association as well as
other scholarships made the possibility of attending Anderson University a reality by lessening the financial burden. I am currently self-employed part-time as an administrative assistant, but am a full-time stay
-at-home homeschooling mother of two children. A tremendous thank you to the Alumni Association for
their scholarship to me that furthered my education.
Kayla (Brown) Price—2001 AHS Graduate—The AHS scholarship helped fund my first year at The Ohio
State University. When I entered OSU I was unsure what my major would be, but through classes and my
involvement at OSU (and previous life experiences) I landed in the College of Social Work. As I made my
way through the social work program I was drawn to specialize in child welfare. I spent my senior year
interning at Franklin County Children Services where I had the privilege of working with and advocating
for children and families who were considered the least in their own community. I spent the next three
years at Franklin County Children Services before taking on my new role as “stay at home mom”. Eventually, I hope to return to my career as a social worker when my own children are a bit older. I am thankful
for the opportunity to have attended OSU, through the help of the alumni scholarship, where I discovered my passion to serve people and better the lives of those who are unable to do so on their own.
Lucas Marley—2011 AHS Graduate—I would like to start out by thanking you for choosing me to be a
recipient of one of your scholarships. I have spent the last four years at Ball State University studying animation and film production. Out of over fifty applicants I was one of only fifteen people to be accepted
into my program. Since then I have been studying under a master storyteller fro Cartoon Network, a 3D
animator from Nickelodeon, and a Disney veteran who worked on Pocahontas, Atlantic, Lilo and Stich,
and Treasure Planet. Just this past year, I have had the opportunity to do worships with the lead story
artist from Tangled, the concept artist from Treasure Planet, the head of story from PBS, and the lead
animator from Disney XD. I have had an incredible experience here at Ball State and have worked with
professionals that most only dream of meeting, and I cannot wait to see what the next few years have in
store. With the help of the scholarships I received, including the one from AHS, I will be able to complete
my degree with minimal debt. Thank you for your support.

Karen (Yount) Fourman—1983 AHS Graduate—It has been 31 years since the alumni committee blessed
me with a scholarship. At the time I was very grateful and I still am today. Thinking back, I was one of
seven children being raised by a single parent who was struggling to raise us, let alone put us through
college. We worked hard to get good grades, worked part time jobs to earn money and to do our best to
find a way to go to college. Your support helped make my dream come true. The scholarship paid for my
books and left me enough for parking which for me was much appreciated. I graduated from Sinclair
with a Graphic Arts degree. I worked for several years for Ball Publishing as a graphic artist following
graduation. I left that position and raised two children. Later when I was ready to reenter the workforce,
my degree enabled me to attain my current job at Monsanto as a Research Associate. Even though this
position is not a graphic arts position, having a degree was a requirement for the position. Through your
support, I have accomplished much of what I never thought possible. I am forever grateful for your generosity.
