A WORD ABOUT THE WORD
by Deacon Bob Fishman
When I was a teenager I had many friends who suffered
with moderate or severe acne. I myself suffer with
bouts of psoriasis and occasional eczema. It is not a
pleasant experience. If you knew anyone who suffered
from some skin disorder or perhaps you did yourself,
than this week’s readings will find a tender place in your
heart. To suffer from leprosy in the community was a
heart breaking and lonely experience. In our first reading from Leviticus, God tells Moses and Aaron that if
someone is suspected of having this disease, then they
must rip open their garments, shave their head and announce that they are unclean to people. This was for
the benefit and well being of the general society. Now
imagine this for a moment. Not only do you have a
devastating disease, but now you are separated from society, family and loved ones. People walk on the other
side of the street. No one can touch you, there would be
no hugs from loved ones, and you could not even hold
your own children, and the word “unclean” becomes a
description imbedded in your soul. How sad this must
have been for these people. Now fast forward to the

Gospel reading. Here we have one of these poor souls
approaching our Lord and Savior and asking Him if
He wants to, He can heal. Jesus sensing the love and
faith of this leper heals him on the spot. Now imagine
if you were this individual. How happy would you be
to have been healed? Our Lord tells him to go back to
the priests first so he can be declared clean, but overcome with the miracle and emotion this former leper
runs through the town announcing what had happened
to him. Sometimes scripture and the Holy Spirit give us
the opportunity to meditate and really experience what
is happening in the writings. This is one such time. For
all those who may have been laughed at or teased or
humiliated in some way because of a condition they had
nothing to do with, it would be wise for us to embrace
our Lord Jesus and turn our pain towards Him. As He
loved the leper, so too does He love us. We simply have
to turn to Him. So this week, take some time and really
talk to Jesus and allow Him to heal the leprosy you’ve
been carrying around in your own soul, and perhaps you
too will leave rejoicing. Try it…

Lessons We Can Learn From St. Joseph
The annual Men’s Lenten Journey on
Fatherhood lessons we can learn from
St. Joseph. Join Fr. John Crutchfield and
men from the parish for a day of reflection. We will gather on Saturday, March
21st beginning with Mass at 9:00 a.m.
in the Cathedral followed by small and
large group discussion in the Brondel Center. Our day
will be complete by 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be served.

Catholic Couple Fellowship is a group for married couples
in their 20s and 30s who come together for prayer and reflection to share their faith with others in a similar walk
of life while also having a chance for fellowship and fun

two Sundays a month. Come and join other young adult
couples for an opportunity to build new friendships and
support each other in the vocation of marriage. For more

33 DAYS TO MORNING GLORY
The Cathedral of St. Helena is offering an opportunity
for women to gather for prayer, reflection and study.
We will be using the book “33 Days to Morning Glory”
by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley. This is a 33 day journey to
draw closer to Jesus through Mary during the Lenten
Season. This class will be offered on Wednesdays, February 18th - March 25th, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.or Thursdays,
February 19th - March 26th, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

FAITH FORMATION DEPARTMENT SAYS
THANK YOU!
The Cathedral of St. Helena boasts one of the largest Faith
Formation programs in Montana. In order to facilitate,
educate and inspire the many students both old and young,
a large quantity of teachers, helpers and volunteers are
needed to complete this process. This month we are honoring those tireless individuals who assist Deacon Bob, Linda
Kecskes, David Pepper, and Kathy Surbrugg. The Sacred
Scriptures tell us that crowns will be handed out in Heaven
and the words “well done my Faithful servant” will be
said. Many times we never know what will impact people
on their journey of Faith. One thing is certain: those who
spread the seed and lay the foundation will see growth that
yields thirty, sixty and one hundred fold. Thank you to all
who help in this process. It could not be done without you
and we just wanted to tell all of you…Thank you…We appreciate your efforts in bringing souls into Heaven…
May God richly bless all of you.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
All between the ages of 18 and 59 are to fast on Ash
Wednesday (Feb. 18) and Good Friday (April 3). All
who are 14 and older observe
abstinence on Ash Wednesday
and each Friday of Lent. All
others are encouraged to fast
and abstain in ways appropriate to their circumstances. Fasting means one full meal
each day with the other meals not equaling a full meal.
Eating between meals is not allowed, but liquids are allowed. Abstinence means that no meat is allowed. If
health or ability to work would be seriously affected,
fast and abstinence do not apply.
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the traditional pillars
of our Lenten celebration. Lent encourages us to place
special emphasis on prayer - both personal prayer and
praying together as God’s people.

contained in your Offertory
packets for your Ash Wednesday
Stewardship.
Being a sign of God’s love to others, we know that
our gifts of treasure are essential to our mission of
following the loving path of Jesus. Our faith in the
future urges us to continue the journey in gratitude,
holiness and service. The weekend of February 7/8
we received through Stewardship $13,753.40 ,
ACH $3,826.50 and Loose Cash/Checks $1,078.00
for a total of $18,657.90.
Our weekly goal is $17,108.02

Join us for the Fifth Annual Family Promise Comfort
Food Challenge on Sunday, February 22nd from
4-7pm at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds.
Taste a variety of comfort foods prepared by churches
involved with Family Promise as well as several local
restaurants. Admission includes all the samples you
can eat as well as soda, water, and coffee. In addition,
there will be entertainment and desserts and raffle
tickets for purchase.
A limited number of admission tickets were purchased
through the Charitable Giving Trust. These tickets are
available free on a first come, first served basis from
the Parish Office. Children under 12 do not need a
ticket.
Additional tickets can be purchased in advance for
$12 by calling Family Promise at 465-9467 or from
the Montana Book Company or Birds and Beasleys.
Tickets at the door are $15.
Our entries this year are White Chicken Chili and
Sausage & Bean Soup. Join us and vote for our entry
to win the People’s Choice Award!
