President’s
Press
You will notice in “Trips” there are
a number of events associated
with Four Wheel Drive Victoria.
We have obtained the calendar of
the associations planed general
and AGM meetings. Our Club
was a founding member of the
original Association, we ought
to be more involved with their
activities, more of us attending
meetings will be worthwhile.
Beach weekend, however we will
now be able to more easily plan
our activities around the future
4WDVic meetings.
Unfortunately we already have
one clash on the Pumphouse
Peter.

Australia Day - High Country
Darren & Allison in Patrol GU Wagon
Chris & Lani in Landcruiser 80 Wagon
Dean in Patrol GU Ute
Patrick in Patrol GQ wagon
Peter & Karen in Patrol GU Wagon
David & Sheree in Patrol GQ Ute
Michael & Penelope in Landcruiser 80 Wagon
Tom & Matt in Patrol GQ Wagon
Darren and Allison, Michael and Penelope, Tom and Matt
and myself all met up at Patrolapart at 6pm for a 6:15
departure. We made our way up to Yarck for dinner and
met up with Chris and Lani. Gavin and Natalie spied us in
passing and decided to join us for dinner. After a long wait
for our meals we made our way to Mansfield hopefully
avoiding Mister Plod, hearing he was out to get anyone
for any reason. We continued on up through Mt Stirling
to Peters Corner and down to King Hut to find Peter and
Karen, Patrick, David and Sheree with a welcoming fire.
was a bit of fun with some steep loose sections, on to
Mt Murray which had spectacular 360 degree views from
the top, the decision was made to camp here the night to
enjoy the glorious panoramic views a bit longer.
After a quick trip briefing we made our way to Lake
Cobbler and Cobblers Hut, we took a few photos then
moved on down the track to find a tree across it, after a
little head scratching we decided to carefully drive over it,
after getting everyone over a few kilometers further on we
found the track closed, getting back over the tree proved
to be more difficult, we had to chop it. After lunch at
McIver Camp we headed up through Schultz Track which
Tom and Matt left early for a prior engagement before
everyone woke up. After a lazy morning for the rest of us,
we made our way up Billy Goats Bluff and though to the
Pinnacles. We had morning tea and a quick chat to a man
posting the fire watch tower, it was interesting to find out
that they have no refuge in the event of fire. We headed
down to Horseyard and Moroka Huts which are always
interesting. We had lunch at Lost Plains on Mt Arbuckle
In the morning the group divided, one group went on to
Dargo for supplies and fuel, the other went to look at the
“station” which went from an hour perusal to 5 hours. After
contact was made with the other group we arranged to
meet up at Kingswell Bridge where camp was made and a
much awaited swim was enjoyed.
where Peter, Karen, Chris and Lani decided to leave for home, the left overs went to Kelly’s and McMichaels Huts
and towards home having an inviting meal at Pine Grove Hotel. Thanks Darren and Allison for picking up the pieces
at the last minute on another excellent trip.

The High Country Trip
FRIDAY 23RD
We left at 12.45pm to meet Patrick at
Belgrave and then off to Yarra Glen
to meet Peter & Karen. After a ½ hour
wait at Yarra Glen we were off again.
The plan was to get to Kings Hut and
find a campsite. Peter and Karen
stopped at Glenburn to fill up and
we went to Mansfield with Patrick to
catch up with Peter and Karen at the
BP outside Mansfield.
While we were having a coffee in the
carpark, David’s car caught the eye
of the visiting police car. The light
bar on the roof needed the switch
moving, the 35’s and bead locks (also
not a great idea) now have us waiting
to see if a canary is coming in the
mail! Grrrr, time to leave Mansfield! A
quick text to Allison to let her know
what had happened and off to Kings
Hut for a quite night. Darren, Allison,
Michael, Penelope, Chris, Lani, Dean,
Tom & Doey dropped in from King Hut
Track about 11pm.
SAT 24TH
We had a relaxed start to the morning
leaving Kings Hut about 8.45am
heading towards Lake Cobbler
via Speculation Track. After a look
around Lake Cobbler we decided to
have lunch at Abby Yard Picnic area.
During lunch it was decided to try and
get to Mt Murray. By late afternoon
everyone had arrived we decided to
camp at the top of Mt Murray (the
windiest spot we could find, but what
a view) Camp was set up early and
David decided we needed Apple
Crumble and Ice Cream,
which was a great way
to spend time around the
campfire. We also found
out that Michael has
“adorable feet”
SUN 25TH
Trip Leaders: Paul & Robyn
Replacement Trip Leaders: Darren & Allison
Darren & Allison Green: GU Patrol
David & Sheree Fullard: GQ Patrol Ute
Michael & Penelope: 80 Series Landcruiser
(Centre diff lock button?)
Chris & Lani: 80 Series Landcrusier
Patrick: GQ Patrol
Peter & Karen: GU Patrol
Dean: GU Patrol Ute
Tom & Doey (Guests of the Club): GQ Patrol
We split into 2 groups
in the morning. With David leading,
Patrick, Chris, Lani, Peter and Karen
left heading to Dargo. Darren, Allison,
Michael, Penelope, Dean, Tom &
Doey left heading up and over the top
of Mt Murray aiming to get through to
Blue Rag Track so we could all meet
up at Talbotville were are planned to
camp for the night. While we were
waiting at Dargo Chris got a call
from Michael saying that he had
broken the rear axel and we should
find a campsite and chill out for the
afternoon as they would be later
back to camp than planned. We left
Dargo for Talbotville but couldn’t find
a suitable site. We decided Kingswell
bridge would be the best spot to
camp. Chris, Lani & Patrick took off
to try and let the other know where
we were going to camp. David, Peter
& Karen left to save campsites for
everyone. When Chris came back we
found out Michael had forgotton to
lock the centre diff (but he was the
only one who got through to the top
of Blue Rag Track) The others back
tracked a bit and caught up with
Michael at the bottom of Blue Rag
Track. A few people had a swim in the
river, then a chilled out night in front
of the fire.
MON 26TH
Tom and Doey left early, as they had
another plans for the day. Everyone
else headed up to the Pinnacle’s
for morning tea. We toured around
looking at huts (Horse Yard, Moroka)
on our way at Lost Plain Picnic
Area for lunch. We said good bye
to Chris, Lani, Peter and Karen as
we continued our hut tour (Kellys,
McMichaels) up Dingo Hill Track. We
then went south down Tamboritha
Road back to Licola.
We came home through Licola and
headed home. David and I said good
bye to everyone as they detoured to
Darnum Pub for Tea and we headed
home to a roast dinner.
Thanks to Peter & Robyn for planning
the trip and Darren & Allison for
running the trip when they couldn’t
make it!
Everyone had a great time and Don’t
forget Chris you’re making Lemon
Meringue on a trip soon!
