It is the camper’s responsibility to check the Lost & Found for misplaced items. • Lost & Found items will be kept for 2 weeks, then taken to a local charity. • The YMCA does not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items. FIELD TRIPS Camp Hyde, Andover & Northwest YMCA camps DO NOT take field trips. • A signed permission slip is required for each field trip taken. • Unless you are otherwise informed, trip costs are included in the weekly camp fees. • Field trips will depart after 9:00am • unless you are notified in advance. • Transportation is provided by qualified YMCA bus drivers (staff vehicles will be used only in extreme situations). • DO NOT bring extra money for field trips unless specifically requested in advance. All camp programs are in session rain or shine, but may be modified due to weather or scheduling, in which case NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES are enforced on field trips as well as at camp. Campers who cannot adhere to the rules may meet one or more of the following consequences: • parent called to immediately pick camper up from field trip. • suspension from future field trips. • dismissal from camping session or program. BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS • Each camp site has posted rules which communicate the YMCA’s expectation that each and every camper strive to be Caring, Honest, Respectful and Responsible. • YMCA reserves the right to suspend and/ or dismiss any child who cannot or does not adhere to rules. • When inappropriate behavior occurs, staff will: redirect behavior, speak with the child to determine the cause/resolution and, when appropriate, assign special responsibilities to help the child build self-esteem. • If a child’s behavior consistently disrupts the program, physically or emotionally harms others, or otherwise conflicts with the program rules and guidelines, a conference will be scheduled with parents and suspension and/or dismissal may follow. • Chronic behavior problems will lead to dismissal from the program. These behaviors include, but are not limited to: • destroying or taking property of other children, staff, or that of the host site • rudeness or discourteous behavior to other children or staff • causing physical and/or emotional harm to other children or staff • Any camper who vandalizes, damages, or otherwise destroys YMCA or host site facilities, equipment, and/or supplies WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for making the appropriate repairs and amends. ADMISSION Greater Wichita YMCA provides summer day camp for children who have completed kindergarten through age 16. Children with special physical or emotional needs will be accepted if the camp program is determined to be in the child’s best interest and meets the child’s Individual Education Plan (special needs families must meet with a child care executive prior to enrollment). PAYMENT INFORMATION • Enrollment will not be accepted without the proper registration fee and deposit amount paid in full. • Full payment is due by end of business on the Monday of the week your child attends. A $25 LATE FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR EACH PAYMENT MADE AFTER MONDAY. ABSENCES • Please notify your camp site or the YMCA Camping Office in the event of an absence (due to illness, etc.) • If you find that you will not be sending your child to a full week of camp for which you pre-enrolled, PLEASE call the YMCA Child Care and Camp Office at 316.219.9622 x5559. • There are no fee reductions or refunds for absences due to illness, vacations, etc. SWIMMING If you do not wish to have your child swim on a given day, you MUST GIVE WRITTEN NOTICE to the morning Camp staff member on duty. heat policy Physical activity is limited when the heat index reaches 100°F. Children will remain indoors when the temperature is 102°F or above, with the exception of pool activities. Campers are given frequent water breaks and are encouraged to bring water bottles, hats and sunscreen. HEALTH & ILLNESS • If a child arrives ill, or becomes ill, the parent or authorized individual will be notified immediately to pick up the child within one hour. • Sick children will be monitored and isolated with necessary supervision, until designated pickup arrives. • Notify your camp director if your child contracts a communicable disease. • The YMCA will administer prescription medication only WITH WRITTEN PARENTAL/GUARDIAN PERMISSION and instructions. All medications must be in the original container and clearly marked with the child’s first and last name, and MUST be given directly to a STAFF MEMBER. ASPIRIN WILL NOT BE GIVEN without the express, written permission of the child’s physician. Current KDHE medication forms CCL_026, CCL_027, and/or CCL_359 must be on file and may be downloaded from ymcawichita.org/camp. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES 1. A staff member will administer immediate first aid. 2. A staff member will notify parent/guardian. 3. If parent/guardian cannot be reached, or situation warrants immediate emergency assistance, the camp director will notify the designated physician and/or call the local emergency unit for treatment, accompany the child to the hospital, and stay until the parent/guardian arrives. • An accident report will be completed and kept on file at the camp site and the YMCA Child Care and Camp Offices. • Fire/tornado drills are practiced monthly throughout the summer. Procedures for these emergencies are posted in each licensed unit. parent participation • Parents are welcome to visit the camp site at ANY TIME - no appointment is necessary. • Special activities will be planned that invite family involvement and will be announced in advance. • Please do not call the camp site unless it is an emergency situation. If you find it necessary to call your child’s camp, USE THE DIRECTOR’S CONTACT NUMBER. Contact numbers will be issued during the Parent Meetings listed on back cover. Enroll online starting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 Starting February 25, at 8:00 a.m., both members and community participants may register online. Place each week of camp and add-ons for your child’s enrollment in your shopping cart. Enrollment fees: A $15 registration fee is charged for each camper to cover the costs of processing paperwork and his/her camp t-shirt. STEP ONE: Getting Started A deposit of $25/week ($75/week for Frontier Camp) is also charged to hold your camper’s spot in the selected week/s of camp. This deposit is applied towards your weekly camp fee. Decide on your YMCA Summer Day Camp options, and complete the grid in the center of this camp guide. Visit ymcawichita.org/camp and CLICK “Register my camper” Final payment of the remaining balance for each week of camp must be submitted online, paid via weekly bankdraft or delivered to a YMCA location on the MONDAY of the week camp begins. If you are a first-time user, follow the online instructions to login and/or set up a new account.
