Bill Glassford, director of the mission at Pine Ridge, South Dakota,
was approached by Gayleen Weasel Bear about the possibility of using
the facilities at the mission for suicide prevention classes. Bill and his
wife, Marilyn, were happy to offer the mission for this type of outreach. A
suicide counselor held the first class January 20, 2015, and scheduled
future bi-monthly meetings. However, due to the number of suicides,
four since Christmas with two additional attempted suicides this month,
the instructor has not been able to keep the class appointments.
“The need to expand the facilities at the mission is great,” says Bill.
“In October the mission was used for Primary Tribal Elections, in
November for a General Election, and in December for the Oglala Sioux
Tribe Department of Public Safety Board of Trustees election.”
Two evangelistic series are also scheduled for 2015.
