IN MEMORY OF
Ian BROWN of Beachmere, formerly of Strawbridges Road, Kanigan passed away suddenly on 7 th January 2013. Ian & Val were
very active members of the area for many years in Tiaro & District Lions. Ian was coordinator of Driver Reviver at Gunalda Rest Area
for 10ys. Val sends her thanks to all who sent cards and attended his funeral for their love and support. Our thoughts are with her and
his many friends.
ROSSENDALE TENNIS CLUB INC.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the Christmas break and also watching the tennis on TV in January. Some of us missed watching
the men’s final due to the blackout but we’ve been reassured by Nikita Williams - our Tennis Queensland Regional Community
Officer, that the Round 4, 5 set match between Novak Djokavic (SRB) and Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI)was the highlight of the
tournament. It was a doosey!
The drenching rain we had was needed and welcome by most of us so hopefully not too much damage was done locally. Time to
get into the mowing again now! Our club did our first Bunnings’ BBQ on Sunday 20 th January and it was a great team effort
with the day running smoothly (thanks to Lyn and John Kelman’s expertise and tips). We’ll be doing more of these BBQ’s in
the future so drop in for a snag and drink if you’re shopping at Bunnings. Our Annual General Meeting and General Meeting
will be on Sunday 24th March starting at 3 p.m.
Now is the perfect time to start a new exercise routine and playing tennis locally is a fun way to get active and increase your
fitness and mobility. Our courts are great and are set in a beautiful rural location. Come and sign up for a year’s membership
and become a part of Tennis Australia. New members get player insurance and are eligible for prizes from Tennis Queensland
(such as free tickets to the Brisbane International) etc. The cost is just $30 for adults and $10 for children for 12 months
membership. This is very reasonable in comparison to what most sporting clubs charge.
The next Hot Shots Coaching program begins on Friday the 15th February at the Rossendale Tennis Club located at 38
Bauple-Woolooga Road, via Bauple - (just off the Bruce Highway opposite southern Bauple Exit). Gympie and District Tennis
Association Coach Matt Watkins will again be running these sessions and we hope to see many of our local children from ages
5 and up, take up this opportunity to compete and gain skills in a terrific non-contact sport they can play for a lifetime!!
Lessons will be held Friday afternoons from 3.30pm to 4.15pm for the Beginners group (ages 5-9) and 4.15pm to 5.00pm for
Intermediate group (ages 10 and up). The program is for a minimum block of 7 weeks. Costs will be $65.00/pupil or $120.00
for 2 children in the same family. Loan racquets are available each week. NOTE: Fees can be paid in 2 instalments at the
start of lesson 2 and 4.

GOOTCHIE GIRLS GOSSIP
Well all the festivities have happened, we have been through droughts and floods and the outcome is everywhere is looking
wonderful, the grass is green, the tanks are full and the dams are overflowing and lots of new dams have been dug. We feel for
all the folk that have lost their livelihood through the terrible floods and all the damage done to fences and buildings in our area.
And the children are all back in school for another year. All this since I last wrote the GGG.
Back to our ‘Gossip’ we had a good turnout at our break-up party and Renelle and her team did us proud. We then went into
recess until this week February 11th. Of course we had our annual ‘Pest control and spring clean’ in January so we are sparkling
clean and ready to go.
Scrapbooking resumed on the 9th of Jan. and the next one will be Sat.9 th March, 6th. April, 4th. May and the 15th of June, so mark
them on your calendar and join us for a interesting day and learning a craft or two.
We will visit Petrie Gardens again on the 22nd. Of this month and look forward to hearing all about the residents stories over
Christmas.
Sadly we lost one of our CWA Men. Ian Brown after having lots of medical issues seen to, was at our breakup party looking and
feeling so good, and that was the last we saw him as he passed away suddenly on 7 th. January so we remember him as he was
that day enjoying the day with “us girls”, our Sympathy goes to Val and her family ,they will surely miss him especially Val as
he was always there especially on the computer chair. Take care Val and remember your friends are always around you.
It has been quiet for a while but we are just about to go into another busy year. Some dates for your diary Branch meeting 12 th
March 11th April Gootchie Branch Contest day and Tombola. 5 th May a Sausage Sizzle out-side Bunnings. 20th May Division
Contest Day at Gayndah. Just to name a few. So till next issue of the Bauple Bulletin, Take care on the roads and be patient at all
the road works that are going on, they are making better roads for us to drive on.

Book Launch and Talk with local Hervey Bay children’s author;
Chris Collin, is the local Hervey Bay author of newly published children's picture book, Funky
Chicken. Chris has been writing stories for children for a number of years. It is only recently that
he has made the decision to follow his passion and become a full time author. Funky Chicken: A
Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks, is Chris' first book published and more are on the way!
"According to legend, many, many years ago there was a great gathering of animals, right slap
bang in the middle of Australia.
You see, many of the animals felt they were more special than all the rest. This is the story of
how they decided, once and for all, who was the most unique."

pulls to be cashed in and all money raised will go
toward the A.G.L. Rescue Helicopter. Donations
can be dropped at the Bauple School or at the
Bauple Recreation Centre.
BAUPLE BUBS PLAYTIME
Welcome to Bauple Bubs Playtime (Playgroup) for 2013! This
is going to be an exciting year for us. We are getting our floor
resurfaced! After starting last year with $14, we have worked
hard at fundraising, including having stalls at the Bauple Bash,
Music Nights and Day for Gorja, as well as a Mothers Day
raffle. A BIG thank you to all who helped with fundraising
and all who supported us by purchasing tickets or items. We
raised just over $1000!!! We will also be purchasing new
tables and chairs.
If you have younger than school age children, come down and
join us! Every Tuesday 9am till 11:30am. Coffee and Tea
provided. It’s a great way to make friends for both you and
your kids. Drive in at the Q150 building on the Bauple Recreation Ground, just near the Men’s Shed, or park at Bauple
School, and walk across the oval. Head towards the outdoor
playground, and you’ll hear us!

Tiaro Farming & Lifestyle Field Day on again
Saturday July 13, a date for everyone’s calendar. The organising team has enthusiastically embraced this
year’s field day with stacks of ideas on how to make it an informative and entertaining event. Tiaro Farming
& Lifestyle Field Day is a day when the locals and folk from further afield keep their boots and hats on and
make the trip to Tiaro to soak up some good old fashioned country atmosphere and hospitality.
The theme of this year’s Field day will be Sustainable Agriculture supporting disaster recovery. The
organisers are hoping to have a Sustainable Agriculture presenter from America who is very familiar with
local farming systems attend this year. A new addition will be a Q & A tent where participants will be able to
share stories and hints on surviving disasters e.g. we’ve already heard great ideas about bringing the
outside inside by lighting inside the house with garden solar lights while the power is off. A range of experts
will be on hand to run practical workshops or answer questions on topics such as financial management,
mental health, gardening, managing cattle health, weeds, choosing the right horse. The field day is not just
about sharing information, but also an opportunity for many local community groups and businesses to
showcase their products and services. We will soon be in touch with various community groups and
businesses.
Our members were very excited to receive a phone call from Hon Anne Maddern MP to advise that our
‘Everyone’s Environment’ Grant application was successful. This will help fund our Mary River turtle
recovery project for 2013 which will include developing some curriculum material for Grade 5 students. It will
be a valuable opportunity for local students to learn about our local endangered species.
Over the holiday season, our members worked hard to shift into the lower level of the Tiaro Medical Centre.
This will be great to have a Landcare base in the centre of Tiaro. Our members are brimming with ideas
about how we can best use this space for the benefit of our community and the travelling public. Thanks to
the Fraser Coast Regional Council for supporting Tiaro Landcare and assisting with this facility.

January 2013 Floods
Never a truer word was spoken than the popular phrase “each flood is different”. New peaks were
recorded on Munna Creek at Marodian gauging station with a massive 310,141 megalitres/day at the
peak while Tinana Creek at Bauple was about a metre lower than the 2012 flood and discharged
71,175 meg/day. Waterways are such a dynamic natural feature in our landscape and continually
changing. An inspection of a number of river properties this week showed massive washouts, trees
smashed, others gone, eroded banks, silt deposits and large sections where it looks so similar to what
it always does. We had reports of people seeing large platypus and turtles, lots of fish and a baby turtle
swimming on the backwaters.
While many in our district have fences and infrastructure to repair, we are thankful that there was no
loss of human life.

The Group break-up at Willcocks’ place was
attended by most members and their families. A few
had other commitments. A lot of fun was had in the
canoes and kayaks on the dam, as well as
swimming and a water bomb fight. Kynan Machen
was presented with his level 1 Flight badge he had
earned earlier in the year. All the members also
received a Scout’s Christmas Badge for their
collection.

Next thing on our agenda was a ‘Join In Jamboree
Camp’ held on the State-wide Sign On weekend.
We had 8 prospective members camp with our Group
from 4pm on Friday 8th til 3pm on Sunday 10th
February. Also camping with us was Charlee
Osborne-Howard of Maryborough West Group who
received her Scout Medallion (highest award in
Scout section) at the Jamboree. All the children had a
great time completing the activities. We had Climb
It, Endure It, Explore It, Splash It, Tag It, Make It,
Smash It, Build It, Do It, Love It, Clown It and Cook
It.
This month is Fly the World Flag month and also our
founder Baden-Powell’s birthday.
The Scouts have been invited to join some other
Scout Groups at Gayndah for a camp which will
complete some more of their badge work if they wish
to go. We have several other camps and activity days
planned throughout 2013
Our Family Camp this year is being planned for the
2nd week of the September School Holidays with the
venue being Fraser Island.

MT KANIGAN DISTRICT RURAL FIRE BRIGADE GROUP
Mt Kanigan Group was formed in 2000 predominately to provide support to local Rural Fire Brigades through operational coordination between brigades. Advocate on behalf of Brigades with Area Director, Rural Operations. Coordinate hazard
reduction programs with inter-agencies conducting an annual operational exercise & assist with public education programs.
There are several local brigades affiliated with Mt Kanigan Group & they are Bauple, Curra, Glenwood, Gunalda/Anderleigh,
Gundiah, Theebine & Tiaro.
In the past we have always supported Australia Day Celebrations, conducted various inter-agency hazard reductions, including
annual scientific burn with Parks & Forestry.

Bruce Highway Upgrade - Passing Lane
Department of Transport will spend $6.M –federally funded– to build a southbound overtaking lane on the
Bruce Highway near Bauple. It is 1.2km of road, near the Willets Rd entry/exit. Expect delays and traffic

AMAZING LEMONS
Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the entire lemon and nothing is wasted. How can use the
whole lemon without waste? Simple place the washed lemon in

Bauple and District Recreation Grounds Update.
Well what can I say but that was an interesting way to start the year of 2013. We all thought that 2011 was good but this was
even bigger. On behalf of the executive and all our members we hope that everyone, friends, family, next door neighbors are
safe and well, and now in recovery mode. There has been a lot of work going on all over the region and we hope that life for all
is returning to some sort of normality.
Going back a step or two, what an awesome Christmas party we had at the Q150 Recreation Center. Lots of fun and laughter
and food a plenty, was enjoyed by all that attended. The highlight of the evening was present time when we all wanted the same
present, the Sly Fox satin boxers. It was great to see grown adults all laughing and joking just as much if not more than the kids.
Thanks to all that prepared cooked and cleaned so that the night was great for all.
Over the holidays we held a Youth disco, did a Sausage sizzle day at Greg’s I.G.A, held a Youth day for the kids to have some
skateboard and BMX time, and tried to have some rest. The kids that attended the disco and the fun day had an awesome time
and had lots of fun and can’t wait for more of these events. When the kids are as well-behaved and well-mannered as they are
on these days it’s easy to hold the day, as it is no problem. We are hoping to plan some more of these days during the year and
we will let you know as soon as we have some events planned.
Bauple Youth Hang-Out: The Bauple Recreation Centre will be open on the 4 th Friday of each month for the kids of the area
to drop in and hang out with their friends. Doors will be open at 5pm and close at 9pm. Admission will be free for the night and
we hope to have a variety of food & drinks for sale each month. We have a pool table, 2 table tennis tables and an air hockey
table for their use, as well as a variety of puzzles and games. It will be up to the kids to decide on the theme or activities.
Then came the rain, and how it rained. Many roads around Bauple were well and truly flooded. Forest View and Talegalla
residents were flooded in and could not go in or out for a good 48hrs if not more. Many in Bauple Township went without
power for 4 or 5 days. So out came Bauple’s true colors and the ‘help” brigade came to life. Neighbors helping each other,
family’s helping families, friends helping friends. This is part of the reason why people move to Bauple, the quiet yet very
caring nature of the people is what they are looking for and in times like these, that is exactly what you get.
The Q150 Recreation Center became a drop off and collection point for many, many, many, clothes, toys, shoes, beds,
cupboards and other goods for the people that needed it most. The center was open for three days for people to come and take
what they needed at no cost to them. It was also the place for our more than loving community to donate what they could spare.
After those 3 days every thing was packed and taken to WIDE BAY SEEDLINGS were it was all put on 4 pallets and packed
onto their delivery truck that kindly, at no cost to anyone, delivered to them to the Disaster Management Center in Bundaberg
were it was to be then handed out to those who lost their homes and belongings. We cannot say THANK YOU enough to all
those people, and you know how you are, that helped make this project come together. Once again it proves what an awesome
little town Bauple is.
Our meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Bauple Recreation Centre at 7pm.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) is available to assist people who have been
adversely affected by the Queensland floods that began on 21 January 2013. This payment is made through Centrelink.
If you are eligible you will receive:
• $1 000 per adult
• $400 for each child (under 16 years of age).
People have until 29 July 2013 to lodge a claim for the following Local Government Areas:

Emergent Assistance Grant the amount you have received will be deducted from the Essential Household Contents
Grant.
Structural Assistance Grant
If you’re uninsured, or unable to claim insurance, you may be eligible for a one-off payment towards repairs to your
home to make it secure and safe.
Grants of up to $10,905 for single adults and up to $14,685 for couples/families are available.
If you also receive the Emergent Assistance Grant and/or the Essential Household Contents Grant these amounts will
be taken out of the grant payment.

Concessional, low-interest loans can be obtained through QRAA (formerly Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority) for
small businesses and primary producers in a disaster-declared area (when activated). Primary producers with an
Individual Disaster Stricken Property (IDSP) declaration can apply for a commercial loan through QRAA which
potentially can be made available at a concessional rate.
Concessional loans are designed to assist in meeting the needs of primary producers and small businesses to reestablish operations on a viable basis following the effects of rapid-onset eligible natural disasters such as severe
flooding.
Short-term loan funds may be made available where significant damage has occurred to buildings, plant and
equipment, and stock.
The loans are provided to help with:
replanting, restoration or re-establishment of affected areas

A Local Bauple Shines
Local Rural Fire Brigade First Officer Bob Maxwell, was presented with an Achievement
Medallion, at the recent Department of Community Safety Australia Day Achievement Awards
presentation Ceremony. Pictured here with Local Member Anne Madden, Bob was honoured
to receive his award and will continue to serve and save the local people and land of Bauple
and District. Bauple Rural Fire Brigade are proud of Bob and continue to work under his
